Those W-body guys
I was reading a post on www.w-body.com about a guy who test drove a '95 Monte Carlo Z34 (3.4 DOHC motor) and popped the timing belt on the freeway. He had to walk 3 1/2 miles back to the dealership, and when he got there he handed them the dealer plate, told them where the car was and that the timing belt popped, then got back in his car and drove away.
This prompted all the 3.4 guys to chime in saying how much they like the 3.4 even if the timing belt is a bitch, and then this was said:

I do too, but it's like f**king hookers & doing lines off their t*ts. Â*Sooner or later, something bad's going to happen.
|
.....I laugh to myself, because I would love to own one of those motors. :shakes head:

Nah, GM made a DOHC 3.4 V6 and put it in a handful of W bodies back in the mid 90's. They were good motors, but cost too much so GM just subbed in the 3.4 OHV and 3.8 and called it a day.

They were found in most performance w-bodies from 91-97, autos were rated at 200/215 and manuals were rated at 210/215......redline was 7k plus

And to bring it even closer to home...that WAS going to be the top engine for the Camaro, if it went FWD. It was planed to make over 260hp.

3.4 is part of GM's engins that never really caught on. 3.4 DOHC V6, 3.5 DOHC V6, and the 4.0 DOHC V8. Only real OHC engine GM has made that has caught on is the Northstar, and now the new Ecotecs and High Feature V6's.

The 3.4 is great....as long as you use a Gatorback timing belt, and replace it every 60k miles. Otherwise you better like buying new valves every few years....
