				New Addiction!!

I finally raced my car(2000 Firebird Formula, automatic) tonight at Englishtown. First time I ever raced a car(at a drag strip....) and I abolutely LOVED it. I'll be honest, I was scared to death the first time, but then after that it rocked! What do you guys/gals think of my times? Be straight with your answers! My first was....

60' - 2.171
220 - 5.930
1/8 - 8.951 @ 81.94
1000 - 11.568
1/4 - 13.789 @ 102

The next two were 13.754 @ 102.84 and then 14.038 @ 100.95 not sure what happened on that one. My best was my 4th run.....(You only get 3 runs at E-Town, but sometimes its great being a girl!)

60' - 2.202
330 - 5.963
1/8 - 8.951 @ 83.38
1000 - 11.508
1/4 - 13.678 @ 104

not bad for the first runs. get those 60' times down, and you'll be deep into the 13's. throw a set of sticky tires on, and you may even see 12's

Get some sticky tires to get your 60's down. That mph is good for 12s almost.

My times are also without "warming up" my tires.... I was scared! I'm definitely going to do it next time.....

Question: Traction control on or off?? I've received mixed answers from different people.

i'd say off, do a little dry hop and good to go. How far are you from the other tracks? Island and Atco youd get more than 3 runs in for a cheaper price

were you loading the brakes at all on the line, or just steping on it at green?......
warm the tires up, load it up as high as you can without spinning
(thats the point of test and tune, you will spin the first time or 2 back off a little at a time)

last yellow, come off the brake and you should get the 60s down to a 2.0 area easily......

thats really not too bad for a bone stock auto though... once you get that 60' down your def lookin at 13.3-13.5 times.

Thoes 60's are pretty good with stock tires, stock car and stock converter. Â*ET is fast, so your car is deffinatly set for mid to low 13's. Â*
Congrats! Â*And welcome to the addiction Â*
Its also great to see more girls into racing.

Pretty good for a first outing. I'll second what everyone else has said...find a set of salad shooters and get a set of drag radials mounted. Toss them on when you go to the track, and turn off the traction control (you will learn to manage wheelspin much better than the computer).

It's pretty bad when it takes me so many days to reply to my own post.
The first 3 times I went, I didn't load my brakes and had the traction control on. The last time I took it off and loaded my brakes, and I had some major spinage, so I'm pretty confident that the next time at the track I'll learn to control my car in the beginning better and get some better times. Now tomorrow I'm going to figure out why my service engine light is on.........

This is the type of post I love reading. Someone new to the world of racing. It only get more and more fun from here, trust me. Like some others have said, get some stickier tires for track days and drop that 60', you'll be hitting low 13's like it's your job! 8)
p.s. Girls that race are awesome! :P
