GM put one of those motors with the matching ZF 6spd into a 3rd gen as an in house engineering project.
very cool engines, can spin to the moon. the design was also completely modular(in production line terms), much like the LSx motors today. one block casting that could be sleeved and stroked to any number of displacements.

405 in its final years.
I wonder if it would bolt in using normal SBC engine mounts?

lt5 are insane engines... i raced a vette back in the day when i had mySTS, ok well i messed around with him, he didnt act and just looked at me, ( i had a very loud exhaust on my car)he was just confused and then smiled and waved. back when i was looking for a motor for my 79 vette, i considered and lt5, but when going through prices of parts...i decided no way, i think back then , from GM, 1 complete head assembly cost 5k.
