Anyone having problems with AIM?

This is Genie posting from James' comp...didn't feel like signing him out and me in.

So all day the internet has been down. Not sure why. Not too long ago it finally came back up, at least according to the modem. But when I tried to log on to AIM and check my email with Outlook Express, I couldn't. I can't use AIM on James' comp, but the internet seems to be ok using both Opera and IE.

Internet on my comp is iffy. I get basic pages in both Opera and IE, but some pages don't work (this site doesn't work on my computer).

I"m in the middle of running virus scan on my comp, and then I'll work to Spyware. But I have a feeling it's not those. I don't know tho. I've switched the port my comp connects to on the router as well to rule a dead port out.

So is anyone else having problems with AIM? Any Cablevision ppl having issues with internet? Any ideas at wtf is wrong? I'm stumped, and this doesn't happen often.

Well now AIM works on James' comp, but I've still got nothing to work on mine. Blah...

Now it's working. I have no idea why, I haven't really changed anything. Just did a virus scan, it found nothing. I did a scan with Spybot and fixed 2 things, but it didn't work immediately after that...now I'm in the middle of an adaware scan and it works....

this is very very weird.

Sounds like a case of AIM servers acting up again. Happens to me every few months....

Gaim FTW!

But that won't really help connection issues much, since it uses the same servers as AIM does.

I do use GAIM. James still uses AIM. And for ease of explanation, I only said AIM. Oh well.

It's an AIM client that doesn't have ads, and has a lot of features that I like. Like, to view an away message, I just have to hold the cursor over the person's name and I'll see it, rather than having to right click the name, click on buddy info etc.

Isn't deadaim still just a patched copy of aim though? I know it always used to be....
