				Screaching noises

Ok, help me figure this out. I drove to work this morning, and nothing out of the ordinary occurred, but I was driving with my windows up. I go to drive home, windows down, and I hear a loud screaching noise. I think nothing of it as I'm around other cars along a Jersey barrier, so I assume it can't be me. WRONG. This loud screaching noise only occurs when I make a soft right hand turn. If I make a hard right, it doesn't screaching, and any kind of left doesn't screach. Just if I'm following the road and is kinda goes tot he right. It's a metal on metal type sound, I think (I'm bad at describing sounds, but I'm pretty sure it's a metal on metal type sound).
I'm thinkin the CV joint maybe, but why wouldn't it make any sound when I make a hard right turn?

 Any other ideas?

Yeah, it's now making the noise more often, particularly if I"m driving straight, but the wheel is slightly turned right. If I can get the steering wheel to be slightly to the left, it won't make the noise until I go right again.
Guess I"m takin it into the shop, let them tell me exactly what's wrong, and go from there. Anyone wanna fix it for me? Free beer and pizza if you'd like |

if you take it to a shop, ask for a diagnosis and an estimate. then any house-calls we'd be likely to make would result in a checkmark in the win column. can always pick up the parts on eBay or something.

I find that turning up the music and singing loudly fixes things like that...speaking of which, the breaks on the stang are starting to squeak...i should get those fixed or something...

A CV shaft would make a clicking noise, and would get louder and louder.A grinding noise could be a brake problem, or a wheel bearing problem.

 | Well, I do have problems with my brakes, I think. But they have never made a grinding noise, only a rubbing noise on the left side occasionally (it usually happens when going 70 - 0 really quickly, will last a couple minutes, and be gone for a couple days...never understood that one either). But, can it be the brakes making the grinding noise if it's not happening when I brake, only when I turn the steering wheel?

I really should take it over to the shop nearby and see what they say...but I"m too lazy, and I gotta go to work later... |

I'd say brakes. The sensors on the pads are probably just starting to touch the rotor when you turn and such. Usually an early warning sign. Pull the wheels off and check them out. Should be an easy fix.

However, I don't work on my car...I change my oil and rotate my tires only. I'll see if I can get someone to look at it.

If you can rotate your tires you can check your brakes. And if you want to learn how to change them I can show you too. No sense in spending a fortune on it if you can do it yoruself.

Was just gonna bring it over and find out exactly what the problem is, so then I can go buy the parts and bribe someone to do it for cheap |

If you're going to take the brakes off, check the wheel bearings to see if they need to be repacked.

Left front wheel bearing or CV. The reason the sound isn't noticable when you make a hard right is because you're getting REALLY bad metal to metal... shavings if you would. When metals aren't "loaded" with much force they vibrate at a very high frequency and the result is the scrapping sound. Unload the bearings and you don't get metal to metal contact (making a left unloads the front right). I'm leaning more towards the bearings but it might be the CV. CV's usually occure when you're loading them with torque and have a suspension travel during this acceleration (or engine braking).I've had the left rear wheel bearing go on me. Are you SURE it's the front and not the rear?
Free beer and pizza... I'm in. Let me know when.
