New plan

well since my plans to sell the Firebird keep falling thru and im making enough to keep up with all my payments and have extra each week ive decided to finx everything that wrong with the the car, do some mods and do massive weight reduction, i want her weighin in like an import. so and tips would be great. from what i understand Tim is quite good at it so would you mind maybe PMing me a list of things you would suggest. the only thing i wanna leave is the center console (just the shifter part) and the dash. road/exhaust/engine noise doesnt matter to me cause its gonna be a weekend/track car. thanx in advance

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17319 <---good starting point

and just keep in mind aluminum heads weigh less then iron
headers & thing gauge aluminum tubing weighs less then manifolds & stock exhaust...short systems weigh less then a stock "type" catback...straight tubing weighs less then a Cat. Air conditioning weighs alot. Some aftermarket suspension components weigh less then the stockers ie lca's, kmembers, aarms. Also aftermarket drag rims weigh less then stockers & bias plys weigh less then radials.

and what hes saying is there are various weighs of "imports" tt stealths weigh like 4000lbs so i dont think you'd want to weigh as much as them...and like he said some imports weigh in at or less then 2000lbs which your car unfortunatly unless you pull the motor in place of a chipmonk will never weigh as little as

Re: New plan

umm sorry i must have read it wrong, i was asking which part of the spectrum you wanted your weight to come in at.........

reading it again, knowing your attitude toward people that ask questions it reads as follows.........

"i wish i had an import, so how can i make my car weigh like one"

if your gonna post a thread asking for some information, dont be a ass when someone replies wanting more details

i'm guessing he wants it to weigh in at sub-3000 lbs....like 2700 or 2800 lbs.

it'll take ALOT of work to get it there...i think tims old 92 was ~3000-3100 w/ driver i think but that was with aluminum heads, headers, fiberglass hood...not to mention all the misc crap he removed including all seats.

Yea, but he also had t-tops, power windows and locks, and A/C. I think the best weight he had was 3180ish from what he told me.....

Yea, but a/c probably weighs like 80lbs or less & i remember there being a routing of the acc belt a pita...ttops are only slightly heavier, power w/d & locks again more hassle to change over then its probably worth in the end...for that just get nets if he wants to go with the tin can look as well as spend upwards of $3000 or more in aftermarket parts including aftermarket aluminum heads or stock vette aluminum heads as well as a bunch of suspension parts like a tubular kmember and what have you thats fine and it might get under 3000lbs still a far cry from being light.

all removable body panels should be fiberglass or carbon fiber (big bucks).

t-tops can be lexan, weighs much less than glass.

remove all hardware from door, including locks, handles and windows, then weld them shut and put a lexan window in the passenger side with a window net in the driver's side.

remove everything from the interior. remove dash and replace with lightweight aluminum. get rollbar installed. get lightweight aluminum racing seat.

well obviously i dont want it weighing more... but i took your remark as a smartass comment rather then you wondering how much i was trying to shave off.. but yes im trying to get it in around 3000-3200. would headers dumping behind the front tires be too little back pressure? oh and it already has a Fiberglass hood on it

you would have no less back pressure than someone that runs a cutout, and slightly less than someone that has a 3 inch straight pipe out the back .......

but you wouldnt pass inspection, or the decibal level at any tech inspection, and cops and neighbors would hate you..... if its gonna see any street use, run an exhaust and save weight somewhere else.

pull out the seats and console, remove carpet.......scrape off all padding and sound deadening it may have, put carpet back in and put seats in if you want....if you have one of those huge rubber gta wings, get a fiberglass one, lighter aftermarket suspension, lighter wheels and no front sway bar.......

btw, im the biggest smart ass you will ever meet, but i wasnt being one in my first post.

i dunno...tims car with a bunch of mods, no cat, headers and a borla with no plates wasnt horribly loud...305 tbi cams are horribly small...the emissions thing is true but i dunno how loud it would be...i think it would sound badass for a small v8 though
