Computer Problems after format... HELP!
Im usually good at these things but im CLUELESS. Ive had this Emachines (yes make jokes, but it was a gift) AMD Athalon 2800 for about 8 months. It keeps restarting on its own. I did some research and I was directed to go to System in control panel and to turn off automatic restarts after system failure. When it wants to restart, now a blue error screen comes up and says some japanese type crap. Any help? If not ill just give it to my brother and I might have to wait on getting my hooker catback due to a replacement computer

Copy down the bluee screen error message. Restart or go on another comp and google the error, or post it here.
Couple possibilities...overheating or bad RAM would be first guesses.

It said something along the lines of checking for driver updates (already updated b4 restarts), run safe mode and delete any processes (?) if necessary. Gave me a bunch of numbers... only once i saw a .sys file stated, but forgot to write it down. Then it proceeded to say "Dumping memory, dumping memory complete"

Next time it happens copy it work for word. "It was something like" usually isn't helpful, unfortunately.

Blue screen almost always = hardware problem.

Yea, I switched to take automatic restart off after system failure, instead it gives that blue screen. Now, instead of restarting... it freezes forcing me to restart. Ill copy word for word when the error comes up tho
BTW it mostly happens when Im playing games, but it does happen sometimes when Im browsing.

The reason you were told to do that is so you could see the error. Yes you still have to restart, but at least once you restart you can begin to troubleshoot knowing what is causing the error (or will find out on restart).
After copying the error, restart and go into BIOS and look for your CPU temps. SInce you say it mostly occurs during gaming, I"m going with overheating, although a bad power supply might cause similar problems.
I'm sure when Justin comes to read this he can correct me if I"m wrong.

Sounds like an overheating video card, since it mostly happens when its during game.
Depending on your skills, pop off the case and if your videocard has a fan make sure it is spinning (thats what was wrong with my dads. fan got unplugged.)

Well, I fixed the problem for now... just bought a VIAO 3.4GHZ P4 package for $1250

P4? As in an Intel processor? :shakes head: Kids these days with all this extra money to trow around......
Well, I would have guessed overheating (prolly the video card), or bad memory (gaming is often very memory-intense, and can expose problems that otherwise wouldn't show).
So, what are you doing with the AMD system?

I gave it to my brother. The problem was overheating. The processor fan wasnt kicking on. Yes its an intel, and its my first one. I like AMD better but this'll do. Included a 17" flatscreen, Windows Media XP 2005, and TV ready. I thought it was a good deal
