Geico actually does save money....
I went through the whole insurance quote thing online at Geico.com....i was checking the insurance for a 1990 Firebird Formula, liability-only, etc. etc. whatever the minimum requirements were. the quote came out to $855 for 6 months, or $1710 for a full year. that's almost half of what i pay now in insurance costs with State Farm, on my parents' policy. i may have to bring this up in discussions about a new car....

wow, i did the same thing with geico, the ended up being more than what i pay now.. ill stick with first trenton, theyve been real good to me. 1 ticket, 2 'no damage' accidents and my rates have only gone down since i got them.

i don't think anything can get higher than what i pay now. State Farm is a bunch of thieves.

NJM is the way to go in NJ. A guy at work checked the Geico motorcycle insurance and it was 3 times higher than what he was currently paying. I've never paid more than $1400 a year for full coverage on any vehicle and my older daily driver's usually come in around $800 for full coverage. And don't expect your rates to go down when you turn 25, that's a myth.

We currently have NJM. Â*When I bought my car (brand new), it was $1600 a year, and has steadily decreased. Â*It's now $1200. Â*When I move out, I gotta get my own insurance, and Geico so far is the only one who will keep my rate the same. Â*Gotta check a couple others (I was told to look at AAA Insurance, for example). Â*So yeah, I think it just depends on where you are, what car, age, and how many years you've been with the same company and/or accident free etc. Some companies will give a discount for being with the same company for a long period of time, so when you look to switch, you won't get that discount.

We have USAA for our insurance, and I got a quote from Geico on my black 93 Trans Am a few months ago. USAA wanted to charge me $2400 a year for full coverage (I only keep liability on the car now) when I moved to Camden County.
Geico came out to be about $1150.
The ONLY reason we haven't switched is because with USAA my fiancee' and I are actually paying a tad bit less than Geico because she's under 25. Once we get married, if USAA doesn't bring out rate down, we may switch to Geico because I was told that even though she's under 25 being married has a big effect.
The thing that really pissed me off though was that USAA considers you a youthful driver until you're 25 and married OR 30 and single. BS.

If you're on your parents policy with NJM, they will give you your own policy provided you have a clean driving record with them for at least the last three years. That's how I have NJM (was on my parents policy, then got my own with them). I had my share of tickets and accidents when I was younger, and they always took great care of us.
Since we're talking rates - my wife's '03 Jeep Liberty with full coverage is $950 a year, and my '01 Jeep Cherokee is $960 a year with full coverage.

I've checked with them, and they want more money if I leave my parent's policy. I'll look into it again though.
Oh, I have an 02 Hyundai Elantra that I pay $1200 a year for.

The problem with companies like geico is that if and when you get in an accident, they are an absoulute pain in the ass to deal with. I personally prefer o/e parts put back on my car. (i'm insured by state farm btw) Geico likes to use aftermarket parts and find the cheapest way out possible, whereas companies like state farm dont mind spending the extra money to get orig. equipment parts put back on my car.

I couldn't find anything cheaper than NJCure for basic coverage. Liability and Comp. on my '91 Lumina and '87 Camaro come to about $1350 a year.

I hate Geico. I pay $1711 every 6 months for 2 cars with just liability! I've never been in an accident and have a flawless driving record too...
$574 for my 1991 S-10
$1137 for the ****maro.
Now, you take the ****maro off the policy and my S10 jumps up to like $1500!

Im paying about 2,700/yr on my camar and its under my moms name with Selective. Their customer service sucks, and my mom is the person who controlls if we change or not. And thats just with Liability & Uninsured Motorist coverage.
I think my dad called Geico a few months ago looking to switch the entire family and it was only $100 cheaper for each car. The cost wasnt worth the switch.

It's cheaper on your parents because it's a multi-car policy; once I left my parents policy and was on my own the rates went up. My rates are cheaper than yours now because I'm 31 and married, and it's a multi-car policy. Don't forget, you get a dividend check from them once a year. So, while your policy may go up a few hundred on your own, you'll get back a few hundred at some point during the year from them.

$2900 a year for insurance isn't cheap and since you can't be driving all 3 vehicles at the same time you get a discount on each one. If you sold 2 of them and kept just 1 then your insurance would probably be closer to $2000 for just that 1 vehicle.

That's insane! How can you afford to make car payments, put gas in the car and pay that much for car insurance?

On AIG, parents plan... its about $400 every 6 months just liability... keep in mind tho this is with 1 point on my license (which was 4 but I took a DMV course that knocked off 3 of them) and im not sure yet how my accident will effect it

Palisades - 91 camaro liability only I'm primary driver $600 a year. I think that's pretty good considering I've gotten like 1 speeding ticket each year for the past 5 years. I believe I have 6 points on my license and in October it'll be down to 3.
Slow Z, you're getting rippped off. Unless my 91 being how it has an air bag... but that wouldn't account for the big difference.
