my Monte SS and inspection...

Well i started building the SS back inMarch of 2003, and Im basically done with it. My gf finally has it as her daily driver now and this weekend I'm giving here the title so she can register and insure it(yes she paid me a few thou for the car) but the last main thing to do was to get the car inspected and with the state being so strict and many private shops being little bitches about stuff, i didnt know what i was gonna do. Since last spring i had been running the car with a sticker i peeled off another 87 monte i parted out, but that sticker expired in aug of '05. and yes i was still driving it with an aug '05 inspection sticker with no problems. lol. So today i finally figured id take it to a local gas station for inspection. It got the whole shabang..all lights and signals and checked, mirror looking for the cat, horn checked, gas cap tested, and even put on the rollers and emissions tested at whatever rpm they do it. oh and the new autometer gauge reads 499 miles so thats what he put in the computer, lol. and yeah, my car with that dahm whine is pretty loud inside a shop at like 2k rpms, but in the end, it passed!!! i was shocked. now i got a new sticker and dont have to worry about my gf getting pulled over for it. Apparently the station didnt care about the 4" hood, no door handles, no seat belts, 13.5" steering wheel, or the speedo changed. haha and it only was $75 for the 2 year sticker.

yea, congrats. granted I am in pa, but with a 4 3/4 cowl hood, blower sticking up beyond that, twin 4 inch exhaust, etc. I always get nervous with the cops (but not with inspection).

her father is a cop so i had to make sure 90% of the car was legal, but even if she ever gets pulled over for the hood, or anything else, shed never really get a ticket. Another main thing about the emissions was that i rebuilt that motor like a year and a half ago, and with everything i do or build, im always very pesimistic and i expect the worst, so for it to pass emissions, it makes me feel better about my work done.

blown, I feel the pain I have a 4" cowl hood and I have been stopped for it, but the cop lost the hardass attitude and started asking me about the car. The car is supposed to be inspected too but I still havent gotten around to doing that. Speedo isnt hooked up, taillight problems, etc. I guess Ill have to fix it soon. congrats on getting the car through inspection, good to see that some stations still care about us car people lol.

a gas station in closter, i always go there for gas, and back when i had the landscaping company, our one worker worked there duiring the winters so they knew my company as well for many years. i never really spoke to the owner and hes the one who does the inspectiosn but i assume he realized who i was, i dunno if inspection would go as well for a stranger.

I used to go to a performance shop in Paterson alot back when I was putting my 3rd gen together, and just one day I randomly asked the guy I always placed orders with if he knew anyone that could set me up and he was glad to help out. I dont have any of those connections anymore The two garages that know me are hard asses about inspection so their down the can... I have untill November, I wish I could go get inspected early and pass now with 2 more years on the sticker.

I love how they just mail my parents their inspection stickers...

alex, is your car paid off and you have the title? if so, this method may work, turn in the plates and reg, and then re-register it like the next day, youll get a pink 14 day temp card, and then peel off the current inspection sticker and take it now for inspection, then youll get 2 years from now. just make sure you send your insurance company a copy of the new registration with the new plate #. I am not positive if this will work but its one possible way.

Parents got them brand new. Ones an 03, the others an 04. The DMV just mails us an additional sticker that you place over the dealers tag that has an extension. And I dont think they expire untill 2008. Their both Low Emmision Vehicles, VW Passat & an Acura TSX.

well when i bought my SS in aug '01, i had a sticker for aug '03, but around june of '03, i got an additional sticker from Motor Vehicles that goes over it and says "Extended 2005" , All new cars get a 4 year inspection time from time of purchase now i believe. a little ironic that my ss blew up when it was due for inspection...

Oh, ok....that's just an extension sticker. I thought you meant that they had an actually sticker mailed to them.

to answer.....

78 camaro, won't disclose that on a public forum anymore but I will tell you it is in excess of 600

bad64, I've never had a cop pull me over (thank god!!) but they do look VERY hard. thing is, no wipers, no horn, wheelie bars, scoop that is as tall as the roof line, etc. It's great when you brother in law does the inspections!!!!!!!!

Congrats, and just think, if you get a new daily driver in the future, your bird may never need to go through inspection again...QQ plates are great... my vette was eligible since 2004 and my iroc will get QQ registration in 2010

QQ plates and registration are different from collector registration. collector is any age wil some restrictions, QQ is only historic 25 years old or older.
