Anyone ever ship a car from Cali to NJ?

I am trying to get an idea of how much it'll cost to ship a non-running car from Lancaster Cali, to anywhere in NJ or NY(like a main shipping terminal I'd pick the car up at)...I tried doing an online quote from DAS but i was like taking like a minute to fill out each little line on the form with my crappy computer(each line was like year, make, model, etc) Im trying to see if it'd be worth it to buy a car I located out there that needs a trans and rear window... any ideas would be appreciated. I shipped a car to MN and I think it was like 600 and that ran.

the price woudl likely be similar. all they pretty much care about is cubic feet and weight. they will prolly tack a little something on for having to winch the car on instead of driving it, but i doubt it would be much.

I don't know if prices have changed much in 10+ years, but back in 1995 my wife had a Dodge Colt shipped from San Fran to Somerset NJ, and it cost her around a grand. And they did deliver it right to the front doh'.

UBG, thats what im afraid of. the car i shipped was a 93 running T/a and i took it to the terminal for the guy, and he picked it up at a terminal and that was like 600, but if they have to pick up the car at its current location and winch/push it on the truck, that may add the extra 3-4 hundred id rather not spend. thatd put my total cost to 2000, and i can find the car around here running for 2500-3000 or so.

I had my 69 Z28 shipped from CA back in early 2000 for around $1000 on an enclosed trailer(InterCity Lines). Add a little for a non-running car($50-100) since they have to empty the trailer and winch it up to the front. But with higher fuel costs today I bet that will cost $1300-1500. You can probably get an open trailer cheaper, but probably not a huge difference. I had my 68 Camaro shipped from OK 2 years ago on an open transport for $700 so CA would be $1000 at the cheapest. Although right now might be a good time with all the trucks out in AZ for the auctions, you might be able to get something at a discount since they're already there.

lets keep this thread in regards to shipping cost, but i will say if the 95 doesnt sell by friday, its getting cut up, no exceptions.

The car is a very clean 90 z28 convertible. ever since i sold my 88 iroc(the 383 one) ive wanted another, i did buy a black 88 iroc but it needed full floors and major work so i sold that too.

DAS quote from his door to the terminal; in Linden NJ is 1,133. and thats for a running car so figure about another 250-300. so it would cost about almost 1500 just to ship it. plus like a 1000 for the car, forget that... dahm i wish i coudl get it though.....

lets think about this...u haul tailer rental,(id only use a full transport) is about $60 a day... trip would take about a week(each way).. so figure the u haul would cost about 450 on the trip back. But now lets think about gas. id have to take my dodge ram to tow it, since itll be more efficent with a diesel truck than my denali. figure about $800 of gas for the round trip....$400 at least each way each way. Thats 1250...right there, then lets think about the time involved...2 weeks easily... oh and hotels...about 100 a night lets say. hmm thats like 1400 right there. so right there thats about 2700... and i bet it would even come out to way more than that if i tried to do it. It all comes down to the fact that if i really want another convert, i'll keep looking and eventually find one around here for 2k or less....

my sister just got her accord shipped back here from LA, we finally found a place that did it for 800. it was door to door service. i can probably find the name of the company if you want it. my parents were very pleased with the whole process.

Sounds like Steve's parent's got a great deal. I had a friend get a car shipped from just outside SanFransico to just outside Pittsburgh (door to door service for a running small car) and it cost him $2,000.

Hopefully you can get the name of the company that Steve's parent's used, since the car appears to be in pretty good shape.

There are a lot of little companies trying to make money through shipping cars so definitely be careful. There are sites where you can put a request to get estimates and some guys will come in a lot cheaper than others. What they end up doing is subbing the job out to hack shipping company. That's what happened to my 68 car. When the car arrived, it was covered in oil because the POS Jeep Cherokee above it started leaking oil. Add the combination of open transport, winter weather and oil(thank god it wasn't a bad battery in the Jeep) and my car was a mess when it arrived. So if you try to find the cheapest transport, expect bad things to happen. I've heard a lot of horror stories about DAS so I would not even consider them.
