Insuracne Companies
I know, it's been asked before. But we need to renew insurance, and since I no longer live at dad's, I gotta go on my own. We are gonna put all 3 cars on one policy to get multi-car discount. But we want to know who you people have and would you recommend them. This is just for basic insurance.
We started doing some online quotes, but the issue is with James' 2 cars, he doesn't drive either to work at all since he has the Benz (which is insured through work). The online quotes don't always allow for this.

I use New Jersey Manufacturers. I get a dividend back every year and they base your cost on the annual mileage and if you have multiple vehicles and if they are garaged or not. I've been with them for 20+ years and never had a problem. Of course, I don't drive like a maniac and I've never had an accident or claim. In fact, I've only had 1 speeding ticket in 22 years of driving.

Your best bet is to crack open the yellow pages and just start calling away.
Not that it helps but my insurance company sucks, our representative is always out to lunch!

Dad has NJM as well. I'd call them up, but I dn't want them to prematurely cancel my coverage.

I have geico because my dad works for them. But I'm in the process of gettin collectors insurance for the camaro because I hardly drive it. Maybe James can look into collectors for the firebird, save some cash.

I believe State Farm has reopened their books in NJ. Give them a try too.
Stay far far away from Geico(sorry Ted) and Progressive unless you want your car fixed like **** if/when you get into an accident.

i have Geico, very good rates........
and as far as accident repairs, it all depends on the shop that does it.
trust me, our body shop deals with every company you can think of, and Geico isn't any different than any of the others out there.

i have IFA, they are located in Clark NJ. but i dont deal directly, i have an insurance agent locally. ive had them for 6 years straight, no problems, no claims to date. They dont give me crap about switching cars on and off as long as i turn in plates for the most part. I got them through a local insurance underwriter, my friends dads company. They then merged with another local underwriter, but kept my coverage and service without any issues. my friends parents still work there and whenever i go there or need something i just call/see his mom and she takes care of everything. basically my point is that sometimes local agents are a benifit over larger direct companies where you are only a number. but thats just my opinion.

Eh, I'll keep my State Farm, NO aftermarket sheet metal parts aloud, PERIOD. OEM or LKQ only. I take comfort in knowing that if they're going to fix my car I won't have some crappy parts that don't fit.
I've seen some of the ways Geico and ESPECIALLY Progressive want cars fixed and it's downright scary.

My dad works at Steve's dad's shop a lot (1rawTA) through Geico, I believe his shop is a direct repair facility. Insurance companies have no effect on the work done to your car, only what money they give you, which is the same with all companies. I hear stories all the time; my dad is an adjuster and if he can see the damage is related, he writes for it, if its not related..(dent in the hood after a rearend collision) then obviously it's unrelated damage and he won't write for it. He gets **** like that all the time, people saying after their quarter panel got hit, their trans doesn't work etc ridiculous stuff

They first decide if the damage is repairable, next step is to find used OEM, next step is new aftermarket parts, but this is why their rates are so cheap. They also gurantee the aftermarket parts so if there are any problems, they will pay to have it fixed. Also, if the aftermarket doesn't fit, the shop will write a suplement and they will get new OEM parts. Supposedly Honda sells part of their OEM parts with an aftermarket label. I forget which company Geico uses, but they have some kind of certification and distribute all automotive parts, so its not like ordering fenders from JC Whitney, headlights from another company etc

It must be different around this area, because a few of the shops I deal with down here despise Geico and told me they want A/M parts right off the bat. Does each adjuster have control over that within Geico or is there a policy in place across the board? Maybe it's just a few ******* people.
Geico probably uses Keystone like most other insurance companies. But, just because something is CAPA certified doesn't mean it fits lol

not sure about that, I can ask my dad later tonight. As for the ceritfication, at least it's better than ordering parts from all over the place, I think guess it depends on their quality
