Overhead Console
I found myself considering the overhead console for my TA more and more lately, but still unsure. Doesn't look that useful other than a place for garage door opener / sunglasses and maybe the flashlight if it comes with it.
Any recommendations for it? Or just another gaudy curiosity to make the interior appear sophisticated?

Weighs too much - no need for it
Although, if you happen to find one with a working flashlight on the cheap, you should grab it. Those usually go for good money.

I sold one out of an 85 TA for $30 a few months ago. F/L worked.

I've seen ones in good shape with a working flashlight go on eBay for close to $100....

as you look at overhead consoles you have to keep in mind that there are two different ones. the one for t-top cars is basically flat while the unit for hardtop cars arcs down in the front.
there were several variations throughout the production run, most common problems are missing/non functioning flashlight and the elastic strap around the sunglass pouch being shot.
the flashlight is very simple and usually jsut requires a good contact cleaning or a replacement bulb to start working properly again. the elastic band can be repaired just as easily if you know or the wifey knows how to sew.

Yeah mine would be for a t-top car. I haven't seen them on ebay lately, and the ones that surface on TGO are either shot, or are expensive. Still undecided, however the pouch might be handy. Just another toy to fiddle with while driving I guess.

I had one in my RS and got one for the iroc like 2 years ago. I also had one out of my parts car (t-top car) that I hacked up to try and make it work That was before I had knowledge of fbodies. That was a straight car, def. coulda sold it for decent cash as a roller...oh well
