This is getting ridiculous (rant)

well, another wek at the dirt track and another week driving home shaking my head wondering why.
evening started out ok. there was a low car count so making it into the feature was a non-issue. heat race starts, track has a lot of bit. this would be a good time to have one of those fancy motors with all the power, maybe next year. lol
car was working good though, and into the feature we go.
this is when the fun begins, as usual.
randy started 4th in the feature and immediately got racey. car was working great. laps are flying by and randy is in a little pack of cars fighting over 2nd through 5th. then, as the story of the season goes, it all went to ****.
left rear goes flat. actually, flat is an understatement. the tire flew into pieces. he gets in and we get the wheel off, only to find the carcass of the tire wraped around the axle tube/brakes/torsion arm/birdcage/shock. with the help of a guy from the team taht pits across from us we got it untangled and the new tire on. randy headed back out to the track and we though everything was cool. WRONG!!
we didn't notice in the rush that the tire had taken out the brake line. it actually ripped the fitting straight out of the caliper. so randy went flying out onto the track with no brakes. lol
he kept it under control and managed to get it back to the pits ok.

this season is getting on my nerves. every time the car is really working good this **** happens. if the car is junk it wouldn't stop running for anything in the world.
i have been around long enough to know that racing has it's ups and downs. i jsut wanna see a few ups before the season ends.
tonights fun prolly pushed randy back out of the top 10 in points too. thre are only 6 or 7 points nights left and everyone is really tight. so this **** has to stop or he won't get a check at the end of the year.

Yup, just when we thought things were looking up. Randy was running in 3rd place on lap 12 (out of 20) when the tire went down. This was the point standings going into the race:

1 15J John Pursell 685****
2 99H Jese Hill 651***
3 Z14 Ron Roberts 611
4 12K Eric Korman 607*
5 US3 Billy Harris 598
6 26 Dan Cogdill 597*
7 33 Tom Miller 489
8 USA1 Bob Lineman Jr 433
9 99 Randy Yaple 432
10 126 Kevin Collins 424

So you can see how tight the second half of the top ten are. Randy was credited with 17th place, Kevin Collins got 2nd, and Bob Lineman got 11th. So now Randy's lucky if he'll still be 10th in points.

That's why I don't race. Racing = $$$, breakage = $$$. I prefer to dump $$$ into things that never get driven. Justin might be able to relate to that!

update: i talked to randy and there is melted rubber on everything. the rotor and brackets are soaking in gas, the brake pads are coated(have to be replaced), and we are back down to 1 left rear rim and 1 left rear tire(that loses air anyway). left rear brake line and fitting need to be replaced as well.
only thing left to find out is if randy can get the rest of the fitting out of the caliper. it broke off clean and flush with the surface of the caliper. hopefully an easy-out will get it without wrecking the threads or we will be adding another $100 caliper to the list of parts.

i don't think it would bother me as much if the car was running liek crap or not handling when everything keeps going wrong/breaking.

as you all ready know in your gut -- the time when it all comes together is the time that all the weak links show their head -- its the edge --- don't know if you get what i mean --- but -- anyone who has competed on a level of high end performance, its like the floor seems to fall in on you at every turn --- and with us i have in the long past --- lost the ability to remember all the things you takes as second nature when your not competitive --- at any moment i would get the feeling its our time we are going to do it ---and the gremlins would jump up and kill everything --- thats racing at any level but it will drive you to drink when you have a car that is a killer and everyone knows it at a pro level --- my heart goes out to you i know believe me i know jz

i know exactly what you mean. early in the season we were fighting a terribly weak motor. now that we have a piece that is only a little bit better the car is extremely competitive.
the last two times he has fallen out of the race he has been in the top5, that is a big deal for someone who only has 1 top 10 finish this season.
oh well, we will be back down there next week. there is enough time left in the season to get up to about 5th or 6th in points if we can stay away from the gremlins for just a few weeks.

His motor problem is more due to a lack of funds than a lack of desire to break the rules. Actually, a lot of the small issues that we have had have had to do with lack of funds. But sometimes we work better with the crappy parts. We can't seem to figure out how to make all the fancy parts work.....
