How is this for a bad day

Looks like I will be going to Wake Island soon. They are evacuating the base there today. Basically it is about 1 1/3 times of Katrina with stronger winds and is heading for island about 2.5 square miles.Super typhoon Ioke is barreling towards Wake Island It's big and packing quite a punch. Super typhoon Ioke is barreling towards Wake Island.

The massive storm is churning around in the central pacific. It's packing winds of more than 160 miles per hour, a category five storm.

Roy Matsuda from the Central Pacific Hurricane Center says, "it is projected to go along this track toward wake island as you can see and to reach Wake Island approximately Wednesday afternoon our time within 13 nautical miles."

And because of that a team from Hawaii will head to Wake Island to help evacuate about 200 people before super typhoon Ioke hits.

Military and civilian personnel on Wake Island support US pacific command operations. The base also serves as an emergency airfield.

Two c-17 planes are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning to pick up the evacuees.

We'll have a videographer heading with the team to Wake Island, and will bring you a full report when they return to Hawaii

Hopefully the storm will weaken before it gets there. These cat 5 storms usually don't sustain themself for very long. So, are you going there to do a little surfing?

Updated forcast for wake from NOAA:
NOAA is predicting the TOTAL DESTRUCTION of all of wake islands buildings. They are expecting the island to get completely submerged by the storm surge from Super Typhoon Ioke for up to 6 hours. Maybe I won't be going there, there may be nothing left to rebuild. If the runway washes away it will be weeks before we can get there.

Weather Underground is saying Ioke has sustained 155mph winds, with gusts of 190. Crazy.
Hope everyone gets out of there in time.

If I heard correctly the last people lefet about 10 hours ago, I can probably find out. If you click on the first link up above it gives you the most current info on wind speed, wave height and position, Updates every 6 hours or so. (to convert Knots to MPH multiply Knots by 1.2 will give you a good wag IE 170KTS = roughly 204MPH

Just the outer bands, they won't get really jammed up till around 8 or so tonight, that is when the storm surge is expected to hit.

That island will look completely different after the storm washes across it. They were just saying that this storm is the longest storm to ever hold category 4 status. That island is history!

Tomorrow it will be the longest Cat 5 in history also, and the latest long term track could have it hitting Tokyo if it doesn't turn south as a mid to high Cat 4 by the end of next week.
