It pains me to agree with you.

Whoever was running that red 1st gen firebird at Island on the 20th, man, you could barely hear it from mid track on and he ran mid 12s all day. Much better than a few loud-ass late models in the 14s. Fast & quiet > loud & slow. Quiet makes it easier to sneak up on ricers in the street.

I always liked the subdued sounds of Dynomax. And back in the day when magazines were useful, they flow tested well. Plus, if you have a friend in the parts business, Dynomax stuff can be a good deal.

Corsa if you have the dough, otherwise Magnaflow.

As for the LM, I've got the W body one on my GTP with an aftermarket downpipe/cat, and while it sounds good at idle and certainly turns a few heads, the amount of drone on the highway is incredible. And that's with a V6!

Magnaflow for a nice sounding exhaust. I think you would get sick of the LM real quick. Sure it sounds mean off idle and through the gears, but just imagine on the highway. I don't think I could take it. In my opinion if you want to keep that 98 clean, just slap a cut-out in there and be done, that way you can have power & sound on demand!

From what I heard the best sounding exhuasts have mufflers on it, no offence alex. your car with the cut out opened at duke island park wasnt loud at all..

I still say magnaflow is a nice budget exhuast, but judging his mods on the 86 I think a corsa would be no problem for him to afford..

Maybe Im biased about corsa, because theirs a vette with corsa up the block and it just has a filter and a corsa catback, but its exzactly how I like my cars to sound..

Well when I already have a free flowing Magnaflow the cut-out really doesn't do much as it sits right now, it just by passes the muffler. Listen to an LS1 car with a stock exhaust & a 3" cut-out sounds exactly like a LM at a fraction of the price.

Wait untill you hear my car with the new exhaust set-up...
It'll be PaceSetters (QTP in December), 3" Pacesetter Off-Road Y-pipe, 3" Cut-Out, 3" Bullet Cat before the Muffler. It will be a world of a difference between opened & closed, plus the car is tuned with the cut-out open.

Jakes car sounds great with the Magnaflow. I vote for that ( I see thats what you already bought) or a stock exh. with a cutout. As for loud exhausts...well most of you have heard the chevelle, its loud enough to attract some unwanted attention, and that causes some problems so take that into account. Good luck with the exhaust...
