Computer ppls

When i right-click My Computer and look at the properties it tells me i have a different processor speeds at different times.. right now its 787MHz, then it will say 1.58GHz but i know my computer has over 2GHz

what's going on?

are you using a laptop? if so, laptops lower CPU speed to save power...i think desktops may be able to do it as well, in the power options in the control panel

i'm on my laptop but connected to the AC power supply

nothing in the power options either..

i think it does that even if it is plugged in. my cousin's dell did it if i remember correctly

i quit itunes which was taking up 180,000K of memory use and it seems like what i needed to pick up, did.

Still says only 787 MHz, 1GB of RAM though

there is an option in the bios that is something along the lines of "smart clocking" It will up/down-grade the cpu clock based off of current needs, regardless of whether it is plugged in or not.

anyway i can help my computer out?
i'm running DVD Shrink and some take 30 mins while others take 2x

yea buy a desktop i think theres an option either in the bios or in windows somewhere to disable the clock speed change thingy
