				Boston Bomb Scare [No 56k]

Does this look like a bomb to you?
Just shortly after eight o’clock, Wednesday January 31st 2007, a call came in from a local T rider concerned about a “suspicious device.” Local law enforcements took the call serious and investigated. The T stop at Sullivan Square was shut down and the Orange line halted along with surrounding roads as the bomb squad moved in to render the device inert.

Hours later several more devices were found on various bridges and road intersections and even New England Medical Center. Ideas of a terrorist attack started circulating and wide-spread panic soon followed. State local police, the bomb squad, and homeland security were called into action and ran across town, back and fourth, all day causing major traffic problems and delays while also shutting down major roads and interstate and public transportation not to mention dealing with the numerous calls of potential “bombs.”

At a press conference at five o’clock, the mayor, DA, colonel, commissioner and attorney general announced that the devises were inert, not dangerous, but mention nothing else of what they were. What exactly were the devises?

Turner Broadcasting made an official statement claiming responsibility for the devises saying they were magnetic lights that pose no danger and intended to be a part of an outdoor marketing campaign located in ten cities around the nation in support of Adult Swim's animated television show "Aqua Teen Hunger Force."

Local artist Peter Berdovsky, a 2005 graduate from Mass Art, was arrested for being the one who placed a total of 38 devises around Boston. The Interference Information Network, Cartoon Network and “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” employed him to create and place these ads for a publicity stunt for an upcoming movie about “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.” Shortly later Sean Stevens was also arrested in connection of the placement of the "bombs."

As of right now, third-parties, like Boston’s Peter Berdovsky are being contacted by Turner Broadcasting to remove all “advertising billboards”, as they were called, from all remaining nine cities as to avoid another city-wide incident like what happened here in Boston and what should have been another typical Wednesday.

IF the design was made to hide the batteries better or just leave them exposed, it would not have been as big a deal. The problem was that they used 4 D batteries in a row and then used black tape over them to hide it but the wires comign out of the tape was visable, so if you looked quick and didnt know the character, it looked the a cartoon design giving you the finger with a stick of dynamite taped up under it.
i saw the news last night, they were put in 10 cities around the country, and around 40 per city, yet only boston actually had bomb squads blow them up, lol.

Cities better than Boston:...devices have been in place for two or three weeks in Boston; New York City; Los Angeles, California; Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Austin, Texas; San Francisco, California; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

"It had a very sinister appearance," Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley told reporters. "It had a battery behind it, and wires." I guess an iPod is sinister too. Or my car.

Man, they are trying real hard to make it look like they didn't over react - which of course they did - in spades.

how my school handled it: LMA Travel Advisory
 Wednesday, January 31, 2007 – 4:00 PM

Improvised explosive devices have been found in several locations around Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, during the day of January 31. So far all devices have turned out to be hoaxes. Law enforcement continues to search and investigate, and this will cause transit and traffic impacts throughout the evening commute. Please allow extra time. Media outlets are the best way to keep updated on the situation. There is no known specific threat at this time.
