I just read about this in the paper. Someone is going to get in giant trouble - giving booze to a 19 y/o is dumb, and having a party with minors in your house is dumb.
I expect Rider will do what TNCJ did and clamp down on drinking.

Wasn't it a few years ago when a few kids died in a frat hazing at Texas due to alcohol poisoning?

It's an unfortunate event, I have a friend at Rider that was pretty shaken up about it. You always hate to see someone pass in such a way. Squirrel is right things like that happen alot; college drinking is a serious problem. On the topic of frats and such, I personally think it's stupid, we don't have 'greek life' at my school they're against the rules; hell the college says they don't allow sororities because they border on the lines of a brothel lol. It's stupid to have to pay to call a group of people your friends and almost kill yourself in the process.
I'm not saying anything bad about anything in a frat or sor. house so please don't take it that way.

It was hazing. The kid apparently drank a bottle of Vodka in 20 minutes.
My coworker's brother was the officer on the scene. His cop car is in the pictures, etc.
The girl who bought the alcohol has come forward, and there is talk of manslaughter charges (though probably not for her).
In my personal opinion there is only so much you can write off to being young and stupid. It is a shame that people have to go through things like this.

WildBillys got it, I heard the exact same thing a bottle in like 20 minutes. I agree with you there that there is only so much you can write off as young and stupid; this is not one of them, this is way over the line. Truly sad...

You're right I have a brain and I'm able to meet people and make friends on my own I never needed to join one of these worthless groups when I was at college. It's just an excuse to haze, drink, act like a jackass and then pretend you are a good social organization by going out and doing something like a blood drive. WHOOPTIE FRICKING DOOO...
Frats and Sororities are nothing more then popularity by dollar sign. And look at the sorority that is getting sued for not allowing ugly girls in, like that's the only one that does it. Hell, at monmouth it was well known which sorority had the hot girls and which one had the pigs.
I've never seen a need to buy my friends and never will so if you are in one I'm not specifically calling you any of these things, but I do know what they are about and would never get involved in their lifestyle.
Sorry if you take offense to that.

why do people who are supposed to be older and smarter and more mature (and say so in their posts) keep feeding into erics comments.....

hen i was at school i decided not to do the frat thing even though i was invited. it wasn't any particular worry about drinking or even any real concern for the money(you will find it costs to belong to most civic/fraternal organizations), it was just that i don't like people enough to run to the closest wawa at 4am just because one of the brothers wanted a coffee or whatever.
i don't see any real problem with most of the common "hazing" or "initiation" stuff that goes on. but there are always those who carry it too far to keep in mind.
making a guy do something embarrassing is one thing, making him do something that is plain old dangerous is a completely different story though.

if you notice most frats have bunches of t-shirts, do a lot of campus activities, intermural sports tems, and most(not all) get involved in charity work. all these things cost money, so i woudl say it is far more likely that the fees for membership get spent on these things than "buying" friends.
if the sole defense of your position is who is getting sued then i bet you hate on playboy, penthouse, victoria's secret, hooters, and the bunny club too. they have all been sued at different times for not featuring ugly/overweight/short/tall/disfigured women and even failing to feature men in the past.

I go to Rider.
Let me tell you, that dodging reporters on the way to class is not fun, neither is hearing a million othwer kids who don't even go there turning everything around into something it's not. Whether or not it was hazing, (and YES, that is still a question, not a fact) the kid drank too much, and that's bad judgement on his own part. So what if it was hazing? If a frat was gonna ask you to do something horrible to yourself (like drink more than you know you can handle) is it that important to you to do it to yourself? I know I'd have left right then and there. That's his poor judgment.
It was not a bottle. It was half of a fifth of vodka in 15 minutes. So yeah, it's a shame, but it doesn't have to get blamed on anyone much more than the one providing alcohol for minors, and the poor kid himself.

its a shame that he died..hazing or not he should of known better in a way.... on a personal note... if anything you dont join a frat... you pretend like you are interested in them so you can drink their beer(in moderation) for free and meet and bang all their groupie bitches.... and be done with your freshman year......then sophmore year comes around you end up with a girlfriend, the whole party scene got wack,,,, and you concentrate on your education and grades....

Haven't had to dodge any yet, then again I don't have a long walk to class hahaha...
In any case, I didn't realize it was half a 1/5... personally I'm not sure that we know ALL the details, but oh well.
