spacer shim for slave cyl- to use or not to use?

im putting a new clutch in, a ram powergrip hd. using with a resurfaced flywheel. its only been resurfaced once. i have a brand new ram adj master cyl , and a 01-02 slave as well. is there anything advantages/downfalls with using the shim? its just so the slave can push the pressureplate harder right? its not going to cause my slave to die an early death or anything is it?
