Wadda ya think? Wha would you do?
I'm so fed up with my current automotive situation that I can even think straight, but I really want to address my AMX's leaky transmission...
As youz may be aware, I swore by Eric@ Dynotech for my transmission work. But Eric moved the operation back to NY. So, I have 2 options:
1. Try and find another reputable tranny shop, which will prolly require some travel, since all the tranny shops around me suck
2. Call Eric, and make arrangements for him to work on the car, call AAA, have the AMX put on a trailer, and ship it off into the sunset.
I'm really leaning towards #2, but am a little scared at just trusting my "priceless" AMX to be driven away outa my sight. Maybe follow the tow truck to the shop?

#2 is what I would do. I had my rear axle sent up from Kentucky because I wanted the right guy to work on it. See if you can get an enclosed trailer to transport it.

where is the trans in the AMX leaking from? pan? front seal? tailhousing? lines? if it is jsut a leak, it may be something that a reputable shop can take care of for ya.
if not, ask around and i am sure someone will help you out with a tow or the name of a place that can get the job done right for you.

I would def go with option car, that car is amazing and is worth sending it out to get fixed up. Try and find a private tow company maybe?

Right now I lack the mental ability to even change a flat, but I did check the car out to the best of my ability...
Some of the pan bolts were loose, so I tightened 'em. Didn't seem to tbe leaking from the pan anyways. The tailshaft seal seems to be dry, and the coolant lines were tight/dry. The leak is coming down on my X pipe, and causing embarrissing smoke. The problem I have with other shops is I was royally f'd in the past, and most shops want to go for the big kill and rebuild everything. I know Eric will fix just what needs to be fixed, and with his track record with me he is a GAWD!

A private tow would cost me big $, n' one of the reasons I got AAA was for things like this. I will prolly arrange for the tow to be done on my day off, and I'll just follow the truck in my beater. I'd like to see Eric's new shop anyways.

driving a truck and car trailer to NYC is no big deal. I went into the bronx, the actual bronx not just the highways to pick up a DSM out of an underground parking garage. I also took a 85 bird to long island on a trailer as well when i sold it. Its pretty easy staying on the expressways and if you plan your trip out first. I even went with a friend in his lifted f350 and a 20ft enclosed to long island to pick up my one 88 iroc vert. Its all simple. hell, if you wanna trailer it up here to my town, ill hook the trailer to my dodge ram and take it in with ya.

I'm in an old man mode, and not really into dropping trannies out while lying on my back anymore. Plus I'd rather have the tranny in the car so the leak can be diagnosed. It would suck if the tranny came out w/o it needing too.

I have the top of the line AAA, and they are supposed to be good for 150 miles on the tow. Dynotech is about 70 miles from my place.

Option 3) Pick a night, put the car up on jack stands/ramps and call upon the NJFBOA to come over and we stuff a young skinny kid ( or old skinny Bonzo ) under there and try to find the leak.
This could be something simply like the filler tube leaking, and a $2 tube of RTV to fix.
IF you get stuck let me know, I can bring a trailer down and we'll get the AMX to the shop. Weekends are N/G for me, but I got allot of vacation in the bank so I take a weekday off to trailer the car if needed.
I just think it would be worth it to look at it closer before taking the car 70 miles.

Stop thinking, problem solved. I have AAA Plus and the range is 100 miles, and I think $.30 a mile after that. I got them to tow my 77 up from Maryland when I bought it. 98 miles
Call the shop, make an appointment, them have AAA flatbed it (you can request a flat bed). /problem
