none of tools songs sound the same. They have their own 'sound' but in no way are they repeating the same song like some artists. There are no other artists out there that have as much thought and reason into their sound than tool does. They are the most technically difficult band to play in modern music, the time and key is constantly changing and is near impossible to duplicate. Start by reading this thread http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=559476
My favorite example in tools music is the fibonacci sequence in the song Lataralus. How many musicians would have a) thought to use it, and b) made it work so seamlessly that people don't notice what their listening to? Their music is about making you think, and if you don't have that ability, then i can understand why you wouldnt appreciate the music.

I agree with everything except for the fact that I could throw a handful of more technically difficult bands at you

yeah... thats because they GIVE THE ILLUSION.. of a good show..
a bunch of laserlights and strobe effects and work that the stagehands have to do... and they can sit there naked... or clothed... and just play... and tool fans will be wowed
because they are tool fans..
and tool fans are a step below juggalos.

If you don't like Tool, why post here? You do realize this would only cause trouble, right? The guy is (was) obviously exciting about seeing Tool. Why pee in his cheerios?

"Technically difficult" does not mean good music. Hell, some of the great rock songs of all time are simple 3 chord progressions. IMO, most 'technically difficult' music bores me to tears – they have no ‘groove’, for lack of a better term. Dream Theater comes to mind almost instantly. But it can be, such as Rush, who put on a great show at PNC recently. Diva’s description could easily be for 2112.
Tool also does a killer version of No Quarter.
