Grizzlies are bigger, and a little more violent. Brown and black bears you'll find in northern NJ and NY and are smaller and a little more docile. But, they'll both kick your *** if you mess with them, or if they smell food on you, or if a mom has her cubs and you get too close.

Agreed. I had a family of black bears (3 of em, 2 big 1 little) walk by within 50 feet of me this summer while painting railroad ties. Scariest moment of my life (I didn't move and pretended i was dead, because otherwise I figured I would be). Now I know they're just lazy bastards cutting through my yard to go to the woods across the street haha.

We do. They've picked them up and in teh morning we'll find garbage everywhere and the cans 50 feet from where they were. That's the price we pay for living out in the boonies.

I came face to face with a bear in my foxhole during a 3 day war game in North Carolina. My stupid compadre next to me started to yell HALT who goes there. I tried to tell him it was a bear and wouldnt listen till I put a red lense light on him. He was only a few feet but by the time I reacted I could already hear my buddies foot steps running away lol. fool left his weapon and all. I started shooting my blanks to scare him picked up my buddies weapon and took off too. Soon the whole squad was firing and scared the thing away. It wasnt funny at the time but looking back at it I have to laugh.
