What's a mint 4th gen really worth?
Ive seen a few posts on here from time to time where people are either thinking about selling their car or selling their car. I have seen some good feedback on these posts as many of you guys seem pretty knowlegeable on the subject. Not that I was considering selling my car but if I was to list it what should I ask for it? I have seen many SS's and WS6's on Ebay and other sites for over 20k I wonder what mine is worth being only a Z28
Its a 2002 Z28, M6, T-tops, ebony leather, power seats, monsoon CD player. With 34k on the clock always garage kept.
All's I did to it was the following:
Mechanically
-SLP LID
-SLP Mas Airflow
-Kooks 1-3/4" S/S headers
-Kooks low restriction (magnaflow bullet) cats and Y-pipe
-Tri Flow cat back
-PCM tune
-Sand blasted and painted the rear and installed AAM 4.10's
-T/A Girdle
-GM LS6 clutch (12570806)
-BMR LCA's
-BMR Torque arm
Esthetically
-took those stupid volvo lookin amber tail lights out and put red ones in
-clear corners
-replaced all 6 speakers with infinity seperates
-stealth box with JL sub (dont remember which number)
-Rockford punch 200w amp on stealth box
I have never messed with any internals of the engine or trans, and it would come with a spare 10 bolt rear also with AAM 4.10's if sold.
Car was in the body shop twice for two minor scratches, no dents, I had my buddy do it and I swear to god I cant even tell, i was impressed both times
Car dynoed 343hp 337 ft/lbs in good air three weeks ago
I ran a 12.76 @ 111 at Raceway last wendsday
As far as Im concerned the thing is mint and runs great, anyone think it's worth $20k if so would I get it???
Heres some pics

I think $12k - $15k for the ebay market. The problem you run into is the perception of value with all the mods. Most buyers, who don't race, will see the mods (and if you make the mistake of posting 1/4 times) and guess the car was raced, therefore beat on and worth far less. Others who are clueless, will only look at the KBB value and discount any value you place on the mods - all they see is a 2002 Camaro. Those who have raced will appreciate the work and money put into the mods, but will only offer a slightly higher value than the average driver, as they look for a deal and expect desperation on the part of the seller.
In other words, the buyer has all the advantage over the seller when it comes to modded sports cars.
In the end, its only worth what someone will pay for it. I would start where I mentioned - somewhere under US$15K and see if you get any buyers. YOu are more likely to find quality buyers, who appreciate the mods, on boards like NJFBOA (and others) where the enthusiasts and racers are looking for a complete car that can be driven away from the sale. On ebay, who knows if the winning bidder will actually complete the transaction? Add in the hassle of shipping and uncertainty, and you may be better trying to sell your car directly through Camaro-centric websites and organizations.
Good luck!

Maybe there are rare exceptions, but in most cases, mods do not payback and can even diminish value.
I'd be hardpressed to think you'd get 20k. But hey, anything can happen.

Oh I aint sellig it, I just look on a lot of sites and see cars go for and I was shocked to see that the well keept 4th gens are holding their value, upon further research I see that the SS's and WS6's I do see going for 20k or better, they are 35th anaversery, low mileage cars somew with the SLP package. I never really thought about the value of the car until i started looking on differnt web sites. I guess I was just curious, I dont think id sell my car, but thanx for the insight!

From what i've learned over the years mods devalue the hell out of these cars. If yours was bone stock you'd pull an easy 16k. With all that like 12-13k.
Heres what my 3 camaros sold for (all stock):
92 RS w/ 94k miles - $4800
95 Z28 w/ 58k miles - $7000
98 Z28 w/ 42k miles - $14,700 (stole it for 9 grand and flipped it asking 15,500 in 3 days)
greatly depends on your area.

it also depends on what time of year you sell it. if you want to sell it, wait until spring.

Performance specs or mods (unless really extreme) dont mean anything as far as the price of the car is worth. www.kbb.com ...thats what its worth

... unless its sold to someone knowledgeable about the kind of car and mods done to it, who can appreciate the value of the car with the mods. If its a raced car and someone is looking for a racecar, they would be better off (sometimes) purchasing a completed car rather than a shell and starting over.
In the end, its worth what someone will actually pay for it.

That's pretty much it. I think a lot of guys are overpriced on thinking these cars are still worth $15-20K. But it seems like a lot of them think a 2000-02 SS with M6 is worth $15-17K all day long. I paid $13K for my 2000 SS with 33K miles but it's an A4. To the right person, your car might be worth $12-14K IMO. But if you're not looking to sell it, then it's worth $20K!

KBB is worthless on f-bodies. Car dealers don't even use it when selling them. I just want to know where these magical f-body prices are for 10 grand with 30k miles. Once in 5 years have i found one that cheap and flipped it. I look every other day for flips.

I was offered 25K for my bird at a car show. I have basicly touched everything but the engine bay yet its almost stock. I currently have 122,000 miles and counting. I only had 105K when I started in jan. This was my 1st new car so I have serious sentiment with her and 25k was not enough for me to part with her. Though technically it is a great offer. So if your patient there is someone out there willing to spend for your hard work. I am just not looking to sell mine at this time.

There out there but they have a hella alot more miles then 30k....every once in a blue moon you might find a pvt seller who is somewhere around that...It still costs 12-14k to get a decent miled Ls1.

KBB is worthless in my opinion anyway. People charge what they want and that's it. My Lightning BBs for 13.5k or 14k, whereas any private party seller is getting 18 or 19k for it and a dealers are charging nothing lower than 20k or so for similar miles. Mercury Marauders BB for less than 16k but good luck finding a decent milage one for under 18k, and I spoke to a bank who swore to me that Marauders are not worth more than 13k through their pricing scale. It's nothing but BS.
