Should be

124379Nxxxxxx

1= Chevrolet
2= Camaro
4= V8, 3 will be I6
37= Coupe, 67 for convertable
9= 1969
N= Norwood Ohio or L for Van Nuys/LA
remaining is the sequence number.

IT WILL NOT TELL YOU IF IT IS A REAL SS, RS, OR Z/28. That will be on the trim tag as an "x" code if it is built past the second week of december in 1968 (coded as 12B). If the vin is 12337 or 12367 then it's NOT an SS or Z/28 but it could be an RS.

It wouldn't happen to be this one, would it? If so it's definitely a scam.

Before my gf's dad bought the 65 vette last summer, he came across an ad for the 69 Camaro in the pic above. He was new to the interweb and asked me what I thought. This is the bogus reply he got back when he first contacted them:

"Sorry for mailing you so late!
I'm glad that you're interested in my car. The car is street legal and accurate. It comes with all the documents needed for registration, it has a clear title and it can be registred into your name at any time. I am willing to sell it for $4000.This buy now price does include the shipping and insurance fees. I'm located in Billings,MT and the car is here as well and so this is where the car will be shipped from. I've done some research and the best and fastest way I can ship it is using Hemisphere cargo Shipping Ltd which takes between 4 to 6 days to arrive at your door (door to door handling and shipping insurance fee included). I am affiliated with Yahoo! Finance where I have a purchase protection account for $ 10,000.00. This service allows us to complete this transaction in a manner that is quick and safe for both of us. It acts as a third party between seller and buyer to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements and provides dispute resolution and mediation between parties. Yahoo! Finance is responsible to insure that both parties comply to transaction requirements. If this is ok with you please reply with your complete name, address and shipping address in your next email and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase so that I can open a transaction case at Yahoo! Finance and move forward with this deal."

Yeah, I googled that VIN and found 2 ads for that car...one for $49,000 and one for $52,000. Both ads said it's in Ohio.

I'm curious where you found it, and what kind of "deal" they were offering you? I see the same ads that slugger found, wonder if you should report what you got to the actual owners..

saw the same car in the local auto trader. I almost fell on the floor after I saw the price. After the first email I knew it was a scam. I'm going to be having fun with him if he continues to respond. Be careful out there.

what some people are doing now is looking at auctions whether it be on ebay or whatever, writing the VIN# down and a description of the car, then making fake ads trying to sell that car only to keep the money and disappear. Its an escalation of the scams that people often pull on like ebay, Racing Junk, etc. where they sell things they dont actually own only to keep the money. Unfortunately, the cops and government dont really care about it and do nothing about it so if you are a victim, you're pretty much screwed. The only way I've heard of someone getting some sort of action taken is if they send the guy a money order. It being a federal form of payment, and sent through the mail, if they cash it without sending you what you thought you bought, the Post Office will get involved for theft and mail fraud. Sucks that nothing else can be done, as I've read countless posts on Racing Junk and other websites about people doing this.

There is a story on Camaros.net about this. A couple of members (who were cops) set up a sting and busted a scammer.
