little more weight reduction that I bargained for

went under the hatch to take out the interior pieces in the rear and this is what I found in spare compartment. sorry for the camera phone pics, my good one broke.

the brace that mounts the tire and jack is completely disconnected

this is the pile of rust

all in all the car only has 3 spots like that...the other 2 are the front of the floor pans

rest of todays progress before the rain hit

so it looks like I'll be doing tubs on it this summer. Any body know of a decent place to get them from?

Thats a common spot for water to hang out in thirdgens from my experience...

why are you tubbing it?

your going to need a little more motor before you need any tubbing. if thats the only rust, just cut it out and make a new patch panel.

Yea, I don't see any reason for tubs. There are thirdgens on 275 DRs going single digits, and they fit in the stock wheel wells just fine.

well why bother just replacing or patching the spot when I can upgrade. better to do tub it when I fix that spot than to do it twice.

Devil's Advocate says why spend the money to upgrade when what's there isn't hurting you at all, and most likely won't be for quite a long time (if ever).

cause when I find problems I like to try and fix them believe it or not. Just knowing its there bothers me. I have a donor that I might take that section from when I do if I don't do tubs. theres a lot that needs to be patched/replaced/installed, it would just be another thing on the list.

Not to mention you said tubs this summer...do you have another car to drive while this is taking place?

I'd do it now but I need to get the other car on the road, just waiting on the clutch, water pump and oil filter/sender housing. then I need to drop it in and put a new slave cylinder in.

why not...I have to cut the entire inner fender and 90% of the 1/4 is rusted. I might as well just do it now, because in time I plan to use it as a strictly track car. Hopefully on a trailer.

all you need to do to fit a decently wide tire is remove the bump stop and clearance the front of the wheel well. You dont need to touch the rear well at all.

or just do what i did

Because one day it might be a 13 second screamer and the tubs will be needed.

It was a "Why Bother" statement....about the tubs. Rust should always be addressed.

well there is a saying, nothing says success like excess, in this case its the Tubs, but on the other hand, excess and success comes in the form of money, it always does and always will. if you want to "fix it, just get some aluminum, or steel at home depot, pop rivet it on, cauck the inside of the seams, and under coat it, but if your looking to bite of more then you can chew, by all means do the tubs.....but first finish the brakes that go in the back
