LT1 Throttle bodies....
Hey Everyone...
Im thinking about picking up a throttle body for my LT1. Any one throttle body better manufacturer better than another? Holleys are too much $$ so count them out.

What you have or planning on doing to it. The 48mm stocker hold up for a bit.
As for brands, the 58mm Edelbrock/BBK on Robs GTA seems to like to stick open part throttle.... its kinda annoying

Don't get a summit, and like said earlier, it really isn't needed until you punch out the block or run a big cam.

I run an edelbrock 58mm. Works fine for me but has the inherent "whistle" which sounds like the car is blown. Doesn't bother me but some don't like it.

I was planning on getting a 58mm throttle body and a fully ported intake manifold bored out to 58mm. A cam is probably in my future.

You're probably better off with a stock TB modified to 52mm. There are guys selling them on Ebay all the time for a decent price. 58 is overkill until you get way up there in power.

A 52MM may give you a bit more power topend, more so you will notice a slightly better throttle responce. But without other supporting mods the TB will only be good for 2-3HP. Until you're over 400HP the 58MM can actually hurt your performance as it can can actually result in the MAS not metering the air properly. It can cost you HP and low end performance as well. My heads/cam engine made 330RWHP, I switched from a 52 to a 58 and dropped .2 on the ET, put the 52 back on and it picked right back up.
As far as brand, BBK is probably the most popular and probably a few dollars cheaper then the other name brands; Holley, Arizona Speed. The AZ units are nice peices, but the cost reflects that! They offer a 54MM TB as well then is a good fit for cars in the 350-400 range where the 58 is a bit too much.

I don't see a new larger TB necessary unless you are putting in some substantial mods (cam, porting intake, etc etc).

But to play devils advocate, how would it hurt performance? Its not a carb you know.

Lt-4 and 502 big block also comes with the same 48mm t.b. I doubt any of the cars in this post need a bigger one..
Check the new issue of GMHTP mag they do a Lt-1 intake and t.b. test on a 355 LT-1 end result was it was hard to be the stocker..

With a 58MM on an engine that can't more that much air the larger inlet feeds in too much air at part throttle so the air/fuel calibtration goes off, and at wide open throttle it can result in less volosity. This hurts when you only have a small plenum and also throws off the metering.
I beloeve the mondo blade is 1200 CFM, you need ALLOT of engine to use something that size.

Well if you get the engine tuned for a 58, there really should be no reason why you can use it. I fail to see what changes.

But why waste money on a tune and a 58mm TB if you gain no power? Forced induction, heads and cam combinations can take advantage of it, but a mostly stock bolt on motor it becomes a waste of money.
