			Upper endoscopy or colonoscopy?!?!!?

I'm getting both done this week..... sigh.... still really sick.... can't sleep.... in the past month, 3 stays at the hospital....in the same time frame been at work 3 days.

I get the upper endoscopy at 9:30 am tuesday.... so I cannot eat any food at this point.... and can drink water up until 3 am.

Then.... friday.... 1:30 pm....time to drill.... ugh. I've read that 1-3 days before you have a very bland diet.... and spend the day before... well.... with strong laxitives and have a sh*tty day.

So far, every single test has come back perfect so I guess that is good.... but I really want/ need them to find out what the hell is wrong.

Anyone want to be me for this week???

I was REALLY looking to go to east coast nats this sat and race..... that ain't happening as it is extremely difficult for me to go for a ride in a car.... ugh!

Just to update since he's passed out and groggy: They found severe inflammation of his esophagus, lots of erosions and ulcers in the esophagus, erosions in the stomach lining, and a duodenal ulcer. They've biopsied everything, and we should get results next week. The doctor put him on Nexium, with a double does for the first week, and then daily, probably for the rest of his life, or at least until the reflux goes away.

Now, it's not 100% certain that this is the root cause of all the pain. It is very abnormal for someone to go without having complaints of acid reflux/heartburn, and it's abnormal for someone his age to show so much inflammation. It's also abnormal for the pain to present in the abdomen, but it does happen. It could be that he has a condition where he produces too much acid, or something else. If this is the root cause, he should be feeling better by Thursday morning, if not sooner (supposed to work in 24 hours, but he is also taking a double does). He is scheduled for a colonoscopy on Friday, and will most likely have it done regardless of whether he feels better just to have it done and cover all the bases.

he just needs to poop more if his tummy hurts.

i had a crappy week worth of tests once. my small intestine decided to fold onto itself in the wrong direction and blocked flow going south. they scoped up my butt twice to undo the fold because i refused surgery. while they were in there, they also discovered a duodenal ulcer that i was unaware of. once my poop started flowing and i finished my meds, everything is ok on its own.

He poops plenty, lol. It's not his tummy, as in his stomach, but his entire abdomen. His explanation of the pain: sharp stabbing pains around the belly button. On the left and right sides it feels like he's been punched repeatedly. From the bottom of his rib cage to about 2 inches below his belly button, it's general discomfort with occasional pain. If he moves too quickly, or going over bumps in the road while driving, his innards move all around causing more discomfort/pain. He has rebound pain when pushing into his abdomen and letting go quickly.

If it was as easy as pooping more, we'd have solved this after the first week. Since July 7th this has been going on, with 3 trips to the hospital (with 3 CT scans, and 1 four-day stay), and numerous doctor visits, and now procedures. My guess is the colonoscopy will find more acid issues. Who knows what else.

this is how we found out my father-in-law has cancer, so i am hoping all is well and it's just a case of over production of acid.

			Neither, I had both done.

They put me to sleep for both, woke & left within a few minutes.

0 discomfort for either.

The only part that sucks is the prep, especially for the colonoscopy.

That sucks man, my upper endoscopy revealed mild acid reflux which I have meds for now but really if I change my diet I could probably due without them.

For a while there I had this nagging cough that at times would make me puke if it was really bad so to some extent I know the feeling.

Hope you feel better James.

I'm no doctor but it sounds very similar to diverticulitis with an inflamation.

I was diagnosed with this before my colonoscopy(which eventually turned up clean)

Basically its little sacks thhat can form on the intestine that if something gets stuck in them such as small nuts they can get infected/inflammed which causes some SERIOUS pain.

So bad that I ended up going to the emergency room for it as I couldn't take the pain anymore.

Many people go along time without knowing they have it but its at least partially attributed to diet.

I think you will find the UPPER is much more uncomfortable. The colonoscopy is nothing for the procedure, the worst part is all the time in the bathroom the night before. Trust me it doesn't matter what you eat in the days leading up to the preparation it all comes out anyway. LOL

I didn't want to say anything but it does sound a lot like a possibility for chron's but I hope it's not and the nexium helps you out big time.

I think boon's gonna be off tomorrow and he's suppose to call me maybe we can stop by and try to diagnose you ourselves.

I would have expected them to diagnose this already. I was under the impression they would be able to see this from the CT scans, as well as from other methods (all the blood work, etc). They've made no mention of this being a possible diagnosis. I'm sure it's possible, considering we never had a clue that he had any acid issues.

Yeah, he was much more worried about the endoscopy then the colonoscopy. Chron's also hasn't come up in possible diagnoses, but who knows. We will know Friday.

			Everybody is falling apart
Seriously genie I'm not sure, I just know what I was diagnosed with & I had some HORRIBLE sharp pains in my lower right abdominals that I wouldn't wish on anyone and was diagnosed with possible diverticulitis but then again they didn't find any on me so I suppose its anyones guess as to what it was. Just throwing out things playing backseat doctor I suppose, besides thats a much better diagnosis than crohn's from what I read about it today.
