EPIC FAIL

So yesterday I did some windows updates, express install.

Today I noticed that my SQL Enterprise Mgr looks different- the icons are more rounded, and my remote desktop splash screen is all different.

Not to mention my machine is running 15-20% slower and boots up like old people ****.

My co-worker walks over and asks the big question: "DID YOU INSTALL SERVICE PACK 3"? I look it up, and sure enough, that's what I inadvertently did.

Kill myself. This sucks.

Has anybody successfully removed it?

Google service pack 3 and look for solutions. We were told by our network folks to NOT update to SP3. Apparently it has somethng to do with Internet Explorer - you need to DL the SP3 update without installing it, then uninstall IE, then run the update. SP3 apparently reinstalls IE to whatever version it will be.

Sorry man, good luck.

I had done the same thing and it updated to SP3. I noticed a bit slower performance, but not as bad as you're experiencing. However, if there is a way to uninstall it, I'd rather go back to SP2.

I have looked around, and haven't found any reliable looking solutions to uninstall it (without a backup and reformat). I was thinking about installing it to see what how it looked / worked, but not without a reliable way to uninstall it.

One thing I have thought about, but haven't investigated, is to just reinstall windows overtop of itself. IIRC, when you do that you have to run through all of your major windows updates again, so that may wipe it out.

I think you're right, when you go to reinstall Windows it deletes the current version.

I think Justin was thinking repair install, where it basically reinstalls the OS to where it was out of the box. Puts IE6 back in and goes back to pre-SP3 but you dont lose your programs or files. I have to mention that this isnt always available though.

I mentioned it to my IT guy at work and right away he told me not to uninstall it. He said the best thing to do is just wait for Windows to make fixes for the fixes in SP3, and it should over time correct itself with newer updates.

Someone here at work tried to update SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager on their PC and the service pack for that caused him huge problems. I don't know if it's the Windows XP SP3 problem or the SQL SP that is the real problem.
