So I got a ticket last night
For not using my turn signal getting off of a circle should I fight it(I assume its a 2 point ticket) and try to get the points knocked off but pay more $ up front?

points add up quick! did the officer ever check the operation of your turn signal after initiating the stop? if not, well a bulb could have been out or the flasher may have been inoperative or even a problem in the turn signal switch. they are supposed to check for proper operation before writing the ticket.

Uhhhh, what? I lived near the worlds biggest circle for 8 years, never ONCE did I signal. In fact, I laugh at people who put thier signals on.

Fight it. You have a clean driving record, another child on the way, and a house to pay for. If nothing else they will understand why you can't afford an insurance increase.

is failure to signal really a moving violation?
Call up your insurance company, and actually ask them how much insurance would go up if you plead guilty. If not much or not at all, not worth fighting.

Where did you get that? Insurance in New Jersey can be changed because the CEO of the company farted.
Points tickets in New Jersey also carry surcharges. so after you pay your fine and hope your insurance doesnt' go up, you get to pay additional fines to the state for the ticket you already paid.

Damn right! Nobody does. The only time I ever see a signal is when some douche is in the right lane next to the STS on the 202/31 circle trying to cut in, backing up 202 to the stoplight. You haven't experienced a circle until you've gone from 202N in Flemington all the way down to Rt 12/Dayton rd.
Fight the ticket.

I hate that rt12 circle, no one ever looks where they are going. I can't tell you the number of times I have almost gotten creamed there.

Bill, I thought I remember you saying that you have NJ Manufacturers? If you do, they won't surcharge you for accidents or points, unless you have an excessive amount, in which case they just drop you.
I agree though, nothing wrong with trying to deal it down if you're gonna get hammered for it.

My parents have it also, and I was almost deleted by NJM. I was on their policy with my own car, and racked up 6 points in 6 months when I was 18 years old. They mailed my parents a letter saying something to the effect of - "either the kid shapes up, or your whole policy gets dropped." I then went to the state mandated driving class to drop 2 points, and paid the state surcharges for 3 years. Thank God that was a long time ago, it would have been a helluva lot more expensive to screw up like that these days. Back then, the speeding tickets were only like $54 bucks!
The good thing about NJM, is that once I had cleared my points and kept them off for three years, I was able to get my own policy. NJM FTW!

I have allstate now, I'll give them a call on monday to see what if any **** I will face if I just pay it. My thing is I don't want to go there & sit for 2 hours only to be told to come back on another date(it happens all the time), if my insurance doesn't go up,etc I might just take the hit as its hard to justify 5-8 hours at the court house.

Yeah, this is my last year of surcharges afaik, and I had something like 10 pts where I had to take the class as well. That was not so long ago.

As long as you have an allstate platinum policy it won't go up. It's in the same line as accident forgiveness. That's whoni have, 2 speeding tickets (1 nj 1 md) and premium never went up.

Well I decided to fight it and after researching a bit more information there actually aren't any set rules for a circle ie no signaling is necessary.

There are no set rules for driving into, around and out of a traffic circle in New

I would say this is about enough to get the ticket at least knocked down if not thrown out completely.
Next monday is my court date so this should be fun =)
