				should i buy?

so i recently got offered a car for $900. i was thinkin of buying it just so i can part her out.
its 95 firebird. 3.4 auto that has a misfire.

 -viper alarm needs rewiring
 -new front brakes
 -new exahaust
 -new starter
 -new battery
 -newish tires

the car is the same as mine but i would need to make back the 900 pretty quick cause i really need money. is this a good idea?

If the body and interior are in good shape, and you have space to take it apart, I say go for it. If you really strip it down, you should be able to make back your $900 and more without too much trouble.

i would fix the misfire but im worried that it could end up being a long drawn out thing. and as long as i make the money back within a year id be happy. how long does a part out usually take?

Hopfully you have a dedicated garage to do it in, too.

I say nay. If you need the money, I know the term spend money to make money is there, but there isnt a big demand for 3.4 parts. Let someone else deal with the car, and look towards spending your money somewhere else that could net a better, more assuring profit.

if you're in a pinch for money and you buy the car and part it down, then you might accept prices that could end up hurting your total investment, not to mention the profit which is the whole reason to do it.
remember, other people are in a pinch financially, too, and it might take longer than the normal time frame in order to get your investment back. if you do it right, ie. clean all of the pieces in a parts washer to get rid of the gunk, then it will definitely take longer than a year to realize a profit. but, clean parts bring better prices.

 i say no, don't buy.

i dont see there being a large return on it. breaking even might be the best to hope for.

scrap prices have gone down compared to last year. youll probably get 250 just for the body where as last year you wouldve gotten close to 4.

If you could get the car cheaper than $900, then maybe. It would be tough to make back all that in parts. Plus it definetly takes a while. The easiest thing to do would be to fix the miss and sell, but if the miss were a mechanical problem that would definetly set you back. It would be a gamble at best.

go w/ slo86bird. but i would slap a set of plugs, wires and determine which coil is bad. normally a coil or arching wire on the 6's. clean her up, armor all the wheels and get $1500+ on ebay for her.
