The ta is down!!!

well after a recent trip to ttp for help with a boost leak a low oil pressure was discovered along with a knock. so after some diagnosis work and confirming the low oil pressure with a mechanical gauge it appears i have a bad bearing. so now i get to do something i haven't wanted to do right away but was coming eventually and rebuild the engine. im going to go there and talk out some combos and prices tomorrow. im going to need a combo that's boost friendly, wont completely break the bank, is street able as well makes some healthy #'s. any help thoughts opinions and suggestions you guys can through out to me would be appreciated thanks

I've seen alot of people running the iron 5.3's with lots of success. They seem to hold 500rwhp without issue and some have gone as high as 650 rwhp for a few seasons. I bought mine for $300 off ebay with 45K miles on it. I'm putting it in a 00' TA with a front mount TC78. Just a thought.

The 6.0's are a great option (the LQ4's have 9.4:1 if your thinking of boost) but the 5.3's have 8.6:1 compression when you drop a stock 317 head on them making them very boost friendly.

im just throwing out 5k as a number for now and seeing what that does for me. as for block what are the limits on a 98 ls1 block powerwise? is it nessary to upgrade to an iron block or will a foarged bottom end work for me in an aluminum block.

500 600 with the option of adding more boost for a track pass every once in a while.

Do you have the supporting mods to make 5-6 and then some at the track? What size turbo? What's the A/R? Do you have a meth kit? With a 5K budget you should be able to get a forged iron 6.0 that will handle those power levels all day long. How much boost were you running on the street? TTP is a great shop, I'm sure they'll take good care of you.

gt67 turbo, meth kit, front mount. sts said the kit should make between 5 and 7 lbs low and 10 high with meth but the boost leak had me only seeing 4lbs

well matt had a tooth ache so there was nothing acomplished today. ive been talking with charlie from ssp about putting together a boost engine from a builder like texas speed. another option is a rebuild with my stock block, anyone have a suggestion for a local builder with a good turn around time?
