I am Jack's useless teacher
so im working on my final for the remedial math class ive been talking about, and i get hung up on a question so i send my teacher an email
"I was working on the final problem session tonight and i came across a problem that i wasnt sure about. In number one the 250 number is almost 4 standard deviations away from the mean, and after the calculations the possibility of someone out of the 4000 is less than half a person. Im pretty sure my calculations are correct, but im still wondering how i should move on with the problem, do i use zero people or 1? Also, for part 2 of question 1 would do you mean 10% above the mean or the top 10%?"
simple questions it would seem right?... Well it seems i made them too simple cuz this is the reply i got back...
"No worries - you seem to be on the right track."
Thanks scooter, how about answering my ****ing questions now?
Do i email him back asking him to answer the questions in not a dick way or what?

Stats/Prob stuff?
I would email the teacher and ask him if what you are asking is to much for him to give you being as it is the final. I would imagine that is why you got the email you did..
What kinda problem is it?

heres the problem word for word:
Suppose you are a researcher that has been hired by an HMO. They have 4000 women enrolled with their company. You are to assume that these women have similar health patterns to national patterns, which have a mean of 195 and a standard deviation of 15. You've been asked to determine two things for the organization: (1) the number of women on the plan with high cholesterol, which they've defined as a woman having serum cholesterol levels over 250 and (2) the serum cholesterol level above which 10% of their clients would have.

Ok, are you restricted to a certain type of probability method?

Send an email back with basically the same intro you wrote and specifically number your questions at the end of the message to clarify...
1...
2...
3...
Teachers are pretty beat with grading and questions towards the end of the semester and it can be difficult to pick out and answer questions from a paragraph like you originally wrote.

No, he basically just wants the normal distribution, the math is beyond easy but i just want to clarify the two questions i asked because the next problem is based off of the answers in that question

I do not miss statistics
Right now the closest to that I have to worry about is knowing +/- 1SD is 68% of the population
