Want a New Saturn or Pontiac?

GM is having a huge fire sale for the two brands to help rid of all the inventory.
GM Plans Pontiac Fire Sale
Tuesday, December 29, 2009

General Motors Co. is offering its dealers hefty incentives to move thousands of leftover vehicles from its discontinued Saturn and Pontiac brands. The unusual tactic could inflate the car maker's December sales and cut the cost to car buyers by as much as 46% off the sticker price.

In what is equivalent to a year-end fire sale, GM sent letters to dealers Dec. 23 saying it would pay them $7,000 for every new Saturn or Pontiac on their lot that is moved to rental-vehicle or service-vehicle fleets operated by the dealers. Dealers can then sell the vehicles at a more attractive price, though they must be described to customers as used because the dealers technically will be the vehicles' first owner.

The offer expires Jan. 4, the last day of the December car-sales month. GM will book the sales to dealers as fleet deliveries.

GM's move could speed the company's restructuring. Pontiac and Saturn, along with Hummer and Saab, were deleted from GM's lineup under its government-backed bankruptcy reorganization this summer. GM's remaining U.S. brands are Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC.

The expense of the new program will add to GM's considerable cost of closing Saturn and Pontiac, a figure GM hasn't disclosed. GM spokesman Tom Henderson declined to comment on the financial impact of the new dealer incentives.

At the beginning of December GM dealers had 14,500 new Pontiacs and Saturns on their lots, which typically represents about two to three months of inventory depending on the model, according to Ward's Auto Reports.

Edmunds, another car-data service, estimates that GM will sell about 6,800 Pontiacs and 3,500 Saturns in December. That means dealers could have some 4,200 of the cars left.

Damn you! You seem to have all the info, where would be the best place to look? Online or at the dealer in person?

There are sites out there like Edmunds.com that have a lot of info on dealer stock. You can also search GM's sites.

If these are not considered new vehicles does that mean the federal tax credit will not apply? It sounds like you can't use any money from your GM card as well. Still sounds like a chance to get a great price on something.

If I was in the market for a new runabout, I'd definitely take advantage of this. Unfortunately, I am not.

its ashame that Pontiac and saturn dont make trucks lol. also is this what your talking about?

$5000 Cash to Customer start: 12/15/2009 end: 01/04/2010
Restrictions $5000 Customer Retail Cash may not be combined with 5.9 % APR and vehicle must be financed through the manufacturer's captive finance company.
Comments Dealer participation may vary. Incentives and Rebates are provided subject to the terms of our Visitor Agreement.

if so i wont be considering getting a solstice GXP coupe like i was lol

There's also something on each of the respective websites of 6500 cashback or 0% APR for 72 mos + 1500 cash back. Where's the fire sale?

I requested a dealer inventory look up of 3 local places. 2 are out of stock and don't seem like they want to help, the 3rd the internet sales manager is on vacation. I'm humoring myself about pursuing one with this so called fire sale with a trade in with my truck, that would make a G8 GT with the premium interior and sunroof very obtainable!

Good luck. A few weeks ago there were about 35 G8 GXPs left. Probably very hard to find one now.

The $7,000 mentioned in the article is from GM to dealers, not to the consumer. GM is telling dealers to take ownership of the new cars, and move them into their rental car fleet. Then they can sell them from their rental car fleet as "used" at much lower prices than what they would normally sell them for.

I was looking today but I just dont want another payment. I found a (Norman Gale) G6 sedan was $27k now $18k. Hopefully a year from now they'll do another CFC and I can get another GM!

If you are looking for a Pontiac, the biggest inventory I found was in PA, Stroudsburg I believe.
