Slipping TC question

I am pretty on what I need to do here, but I would to hear some suggestions..

Is there a good way to see if your torque converter is slipping? And is there a point where its past the point of no return? I am worried that I may lose my transmission as well as the converter if it does let go.

Obviously, when it gets to the point of where I give it gas and go no where, the converter/trans is shot but just looking for things to look out for before it gets there.

Pretty rare for a TC to go. Why do you think it's the TC and not the tranny.

First thing to do it drop the pan and look for shavings. Those shavings go throught the system and tear everything up, including the converter!

I bought it used and its a rather high stall.

I do wanna install a temp sender in the pan, so maybe thats a good excuse to check the fluids.

is your car slipping when its in gear though?? did you check the oil level...

Compare engine rpm to driveshaft rpm in 1:1 (3rd in a A4) with the converter unlocked and locked.. Compare the two.. This requires you put a flying magnet speed sensor on the driveshaft. We use this to determine converter efficiency/slip.

i needed one in my 98 TA with like 60k miles on it. the car would not do a brake stand, if u let off the brake on flat ground it would accelerate up to 30mph all on its own, and when on the brakes in drive wen u slip it into neutral it would rev up. i took it to my trans guy who asked me wat that hell makes u think its that? and he drove it and sed wow u were right lol... check these things out
