cam/lifter choice for LS1

My brother has a 99 trans am with the ls1 right now the car is stock besides cold air kit with smooth lid and a slp lm1 catback. He is wanting to put a cam in it. Figured id see what you guys recommend he barely drives the car but when he does he wants something street friendly but wants something healthy sounding. he maybe drives the car once a week if that lol.

You need to do alot of supporting mods with a cam...

If sound is just wanted the GM ASA cam sounds great!

I would highly suggest looking into what needs to be done first...

I agree. My budget was originally 1500$ with me doing the labor. I think I was around 3k when all said and done.

Do all the bolt-ons first. If the car is an auto, look info a good torque converter. You'll get more gains that way versus just a cam swap.

Yeah, stick an MS4 in a stock motor. Makes perfect sense.

Don't listen to them. You don't want a bid donkey d cam... I would do headers first and then a stall but after that there are tons of cams that sound great and drive like stock. Look at older grinds like the Tr224 which would be perfect for what you described. Don't forget you will need a tune after a cam..

Headers and a y pipe will give him better sound and a stall will really wake the car up, if he decides to do a cam, make sure he gets his info from a reputable source, someone like NJ torque really knows what he's talking about, where as other members are not as familiar with running motors

If you just throw a random cam in the car it will be a dog. Individual parts don't make for a good performing car, it's having the right combination of parts that work together that will get you there.

228/228 600/600 112 cam should make good power with stock heads!! Get some pushrods, and some LS7 lifters along with a good valve spring and your would be set!!
