Can anybody install a new water valve in my home?
I went to blow out my underground water system the other day and the valve inside my home would not shut off completely. I tried to get the head off to see if I could replace the washer, but I cannot get it out.
If there is someone here that could do that OR you would need a torch to replace the entire valve, please let me know before the REALLY cold weather sets in!

Yeah, I would want a ball valve installed if possible. I have a LOWE'S and a Home Depot 5 minutes away from me, so getting the right parts is no sweat if someone was here and could measure the correct pipe diameter.

does wife has one of those soft tape measures used for sewing? if so, use it to wrap around pipe for measurement of circumference, than take measurement and divide by 3.14
1 1/4"= roughly 4" around
1" pipe = roughly 3 1/8" around
3/4" pipe= roughly 2 3/8" around

Yea, I was gonna say the same, it's likely 1/2" or 5/8". Do you have another shutoff valve somewhere between the main water supply and that shutoff? Otherwise you'll have to shut off the main valve and lose all water pressure in the house while the repair is being performed.

you should have a 1" poly main coming into house (in crawl or basement)
On older houses I have seen them either rite next to water heater and under kitchen sinks
