Got to see the second half.....none of those guys know how to drive. Blown L98's running mid 13's????

Not to mention the red IROC was a T-top car, so they were disadvantaged from the start.

I taped the show.It was just cool to see 3rd gens featured on tv.I really liked when they showed the old clips of fbodies and went into the history of the fbody cars and iroc racing.I remember watching iroc racing on tv in the late 80`s and even have some short clips of that on tape.

Saw it as well. It was good but the old guys screwed themeslves shifting manually.

Did anyone else catch the comparison they did with the MSD versus the stock ignition system? I think that was compelte BS because I've heard the stock HEI ignition system is pretty damn good. Plus shouldn't the MSD have shown a number of sparks jumping instead of just one?

I really hate that show... I lost faith back when they had the Grand Nationals with aftermarket turbos that were going 2-3 seconds slower than they do stock

They should get some diehard hot-rodders for the build-off, not your average joe mechanic whos never even drag raced.

It was pretty good. The old guys in the red IROC should not have been shifting manually, that was obvious. But the white car also dyno'd more rwhp in stock form than the red one. The MSD demo was exactly that, a demo. It wasn't comparing the GM HEI to the MSD, it was probably comparing a stock single point ignition with stock coil to the MSD. The white car got down to 13.23 on the final run which isn't too bad for a couple of ricers wrenching on a real car! And the ricer boys were surprised how much power they could feel in those big heavy cars. The Buick GN episode was using the 85 GN which was the hot air turbos which were not very quick to begin with. Having people that can't drive doesn't help show what improvements were made either. It was a pretty good episode though. The history of the F-body stuff was cool to see.

Whoever taped it PLEASE make me a copy. I'd like to get a laugh or 2 out of it.
I missed it obviously but going from what I've read so far I didn't miss all that much.
A blown IROC in the low 13's . Heck, my street setup lame jane 350 TBI is hot on it's heals.
BTW, GM HEI vs MSD is kind of hard to explain without getting into details. First off, MSD will not make any more power but it WILL increase throttle responce at LOW engine speeds AND increase milage on most if not all wedge head and low tech engines. The MSD only fires multiple sparks when it has time too. This happens to end around 2400rpm or so (could be wrong but I know it's a low engine speed). After that it's single fire typical CDI style. The advantage of CDI is the "hotter" energy spark. Where as inductive HEI will loose spark energy as engine speed goes up. The limiting factor of STOCK GM HEI is about 450hp and 6000rpm, anything more or above those numbers can and usually does see slight horsepower gains with a CDI.
Now here comes the tricky part; a lean motor (like the untuned supercharged IROCs on that show) will also benifit from a CDI spark. This is because lean mixtures are harder to get lit. So by using a very fast and "hot" spark from CDI the mixture is lit reliabily where as the HEI at high RPM and high dynamic pressure will have a harder time being reliable.
That is everything in a nutshell.
As for the shifting manually, I'm assuming it they were auto's. In that case I've found every thirdgen f-body I've driven to be faster in the 1/4 when shifted manually. I've driven 4 thirdgens in the 1/4 and all of them had aftermarket shift kits and no governer modifications. In other words, peak engine horsepower at 5000+rpm yet transmission shifts AT 5000rpm, that isn't the fastest way down a 1/4 mile unless you've got traction problems! Even with traction problems I'll cut 4 tenths off my times shifting myself and gain 3mph. Since they were old guys please tell me they just kept screwing up the timing of the shifts.

Yea, the old guys were messing up shift points, and both sides were constantly looking into the other lane to see where the opponent was. Old guys kept drifting to the centerline of the track.

One also has to wonder if track prep wasn't equal, as the two cars never switched lanes.

The best part was the twin turbo 2000 hp Camaro that made the run down the track. That car looked very street friendly on the outside.

2000hp street camaro?!?!? I thought that was something the corvette guys did, not f-body, lol. You know, what's the difference between a 2000hp corvette and a 800hp camaro? NOTHING, they both run the same ET . That's a joke derived from the 1000hp Supra vs 500hp Supra... both 11 seconds.
Really, I need pictures or links to that camaro.

I think I know which one you're talking about. The black one right? That thing is FAR from street appearance. Something about a huge liquid/air intercooler that's larger than the driver in the passenger seat says "not streetable".
