				Dealership Sales Career

What kind of average pay do sales people at dealerships make? I know its a big difference between, say, Saturn and Mercedes. But can people make a career out of it, with familes, a mortgage, car payments and such? Or is it more of a young persons game with smaller income for those just starting out?
This desk job is killing me, and I dont have enough mechanical experience to work in a shop.

eh... bro, people can make decent money as a carsalesperson... but it's definitely changed since the invention of the Internet.

The guys who I saw at the dealership that I used to work at that were making barely enough money to support a family, were guys that had built up a customer base over a period of years. It's like any other sales gig- the new guy usually gets the crappy ups.

It's not really too too complicated, it's just much more work than people would like you to believe. If I were you, i'd try it out parttime to start out to see if you liked it. And promise me one thing.. do NOT work at a GM dealership... all of the dealerships that I dealt with in the year and a half that I worked as the Internet Manager at one, were really really cutting down sales staff and their salary, and as a result, the morale was pathetic.

I dealt with a salesman yesterday, it must have been his first week or less on the job, he didnt know crap abotu any of the cars he showed me, and sinc ei wanted a 98-03 GTP, he said a regular grand prix is just the same and he kept showing me those.. i was annoyed and then when i asked for a price on an 04 grand prix, he can back with numbers that added up to 28k on a $16k car. my girlfriend practically yelled at me cuz i raised my voice at made a scene, lol.
so yeah, if you wanna be a dealer salesman, at least know what you are selling and never think the buyer cant do math, lol.
