gm controls 1/3 of world automotive production. if they went bankrupt it would put several countries out of business. including our own.

Complete
Now I could be wrong but I don't think GM's going bankrupt for at least another 10 years or so.

Thank God I drank tonight.

GM isnt going bankrupt any time soon. They are still the largest car company on this planet.
GM is under heavy reconstruction right now. People and companies are being moved around, mean while GM keeps pushing new cars and trucks every month.
The press has really beat up on GM as of recent. GM's lack of hybrids, even though there is NO money saved, and last time I checked the ozone was still being depleated. If anything, the hyrbrid car will never save you money. There is at least a 5k mark up on every Prius, and people are willing to pay it because they want to look like they want to save the planet.
Guess what...your little econo that used to get 30mph, is now getting 40mph IS NOT going to save the planet. Sorry to upset you, but its not going to happen. Gas prices are not going to come down due to hybrids. JD Power predicts that gas prices would have to reach over 4 dollars a gallon, and remain there for over a year for any effect on the American car market to turn them away from V8's.
If anything, V8's are making a turn upwards.

Getting back to GM. They are pushing there new trucks, the GMT 900's right now. The GMT800's were so far advanced in chassis design, that to this day, Ford, Dodge and now Nissan are just matching the suspension and technology of the 800's. Trucks and SUV's are still a HUGE source of income for GM, and they are big profit makers. And with Lutz now totaly involved in Global Car Development, be sure that we will see some serious cars coming out from here on out. We have a true car guy in charge of ALL global products. Good move on GM's part.

GM is going through a rough time, but only if you read what the press has to say. Pretty much all of GM's new line ups are doing fantastic. There is also a lit of misleading that the press is doing regarding many GM products. GM has seen this, and has recently pulled there advertising out of the LA Times due to piss poor reviews with lies.
LAT claims that the G6 is a flop, and that Lutz and Wagoner should be fired right now.
What they forgot to look up is that the G6 is selling at near 10k units a month, with only ONE engine and ONE transmison choice. Thats it, one model!! One V6 and a 4spd auto trans. They sell 10k units without a 4cyl model, or there hi-po 3.9 VVt V6 that will arive this year. Not to mention the 6spd manual trans that will be able to be found in all GTP's.

I have gotten off to a rant, but the Press is making GM's situation worse off then it is. That trickles down into peoples minds, and rumors start to spread. And then threads like this start popping up.

Tell your friend he doesnt know **** and that he should actualy read instead of just hearing internet rumors.

I think GM is doing ok, and even if they were in any sort of trouble, I doubt it would be because of Saturn, I thought they were one of the more stable off-shoots.

gm is moving along nicely right now.
they have started to reclaim market share both domestically and over seas.
they are introducing more new models worlwide than any 2 other manufacturers combined in the '06 model year.
they keep adding to their performance bottom line by offering more models with multiple engines available.
they still own casting facilities with long term contracts to ford, chrysler, and honda.
they added about 30% to their research adn development budget in the last 5 years(more than anyone else)
and they dropped nearly all of the plastic clad cars from their line ups already, something a few other manufacturers are just getting around to now.
only place they are losing out still is teh small car market. that is a tough show, everybody is niche marketing it to death. cars that get 50-60mpg , some that are bargain priced with rims and systems from teh factory, and factory "tuner" cars make it a moving target and hard to hit. hopefully the cobalt with help to grab at least 1 portion of that market back for GM.

Cobalt is doing fantastic. Its running 3 shifts with no downtime.
GM has noticed the popularity of the Cobalt SS's colored interior. They might make that an option for sport models in the future.
I cant wait for the 2.4 VVt Ecotec to come out and really will show what GM's Ecotec line really has to offer.

Anyway, GM is moving around its resources and trying to make itself react faster to the market, which is GM's biggest downfall. Toyota, Honda and even Ford can react much faster to market changes
