big no no as far as self installation.

I'd probably tell him to take it to la rocca's, just like james said. they really know mustangs, so it would be a safe bet that they wouldn't mess it up. 8)

Ian, what's up with these mustangs and cowl hoods?
http://www.laroccas-performance.com/customers_cars.htm
It's not like they need the cowl for air intake NORE clearances... wtf. It's starting to piss me off. At least my cowl is for clearances AND air intake.
As for the shifter install, I didn't know it was all that difficult... what's so hard about the install?

I didnt put the hood on there, it was like that when I bought it. I did get the stock hood too, but its bent .

He isn't talking about a shifter, he wants a shift kit. Like new springs and valve body. All those little check balls...what a nightmare.

*edit* I think some of the guys running turbo setups might need the cowl hood for clearance. I know some of the aftermarket upper intake manifolds are taller than stock, plus they sell spacers for between the upper and lower intake, so I'm sure someone actually needs a hood like that. It helps keep underhood temperatures a little bit lower too I think.

Don't call me for tech support on that one. I've done plenty of cam swaps, but only 1/2 of a shift kit (helped with Matt's in the 454SS).

i've heard it depends on the kit. a B&M shift kit can be done easily in your garage, but something like a transgo will be a little more complicated. i think it comes with a how-to video, but i wouldn't try it by myself.

yah the transgo kit for the 4l60e looked complicated as hell...mine was like 4/5 springs and a couple of drilled holes...nothing horrible but the directions sucked(no video included with tci kit) and some things were different in my tranny so it was a guessing game for a few things.

you can do it at home, but if you dont know what you're doing, I would leave it up to a pro. But, if you really want to do it yourself, go for it. My dad and I put a shift kit in the TH-350 thats in the camaro. Then again, my dad was a mechanic for 15 or so years. I passed the ATRA test (Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association), so I could probably instal a shift kit. If you end up doing it yourself and you run into a problem, let me know, I'll try to help. Otherwise just let someone else do it.

Tru2Chevy, no offense taken.
