This is why i will never use NOS, long story short

Well, a girl my brothers been dating, and I went to school with her for a pretty long time, has a cousin with a foxbody stang. So he was racing a civic on the highway and he went to use his NOS, and the bottle somehow exploded or backfired. He ended up slamming into another car due to loss of control and hes now in very critical condition. Most of us know its pretty stupid to be racing, but its really sad when its someone you know or one of your friends relatives. You can barely tell its a stang anymore. And yes, thats a bloodstain in the doorway.

Keep him in prayers tonight. Its some really sad ****.

the small block posse sticker on the sail window gives away what kind of driver he was. they are a bunch of street racers, have been for decades.
this accident has little/nothing to do with nitrous, it has everything to do with the dangers and stupidity involved with street racing.
i have no sympathy for him, i just hope no one else invovled in the accident was hurt.

If the bottle "explosively decompressed" I think there would be lots of damage to the rear of the car (where the bottle is most likely to be mounted)... Seems more like hes just a moron and lost control.

That sucks man. I am skeptical about nitrous being the cause. Nitrous doesn't blow up. Its actually not flamable. maybe he had the bottle heater on all day in the hot sun and the pressure got to be too much. I dont know. I do agree with tim though, street racing is pretty dumb when there are tracks in north, south and central jersey. and why the **** would he be wasting time on a civic? This is a tragedy that should have never happened. I'll keep him in my prayers, but I'll also pray that he never races on the street again if he does indeed pull through. If he lives, maybe he'll learn something...and if he doesnt, maybe others will.

nitrous dosent blow up, but if the seal on the bottle breaks (common, thats why nhra mandates blow-down tubes) it makes a loud noise and if there is no blow down tube it will vent the nitrous into the interior....

while this wont destroy the car, im sure it can be quite startling and take ones attention off the road causing the head on collision that is pictured

i saw that car at the track all the time...along with other small block possie cars....oh yeah, we had a kid doing 120 mph on a back road around here waffle his car into a tree...did i feel sorry? not really. people say "i know its not right but my friend was doing this....." i never say that because people who do 120 mph on a back road arent my friends. my friends are smarter than that.

1. Street racing is stupid.

2. it's nitrous, not NOS. NOS is a brand, nitrous is the chemical.

3. When your friend recovers, I hope he will have learned his lesson: keep it on the track.

We all know. Thank you Bill Nye. Perhaps its sometimes just easier to type out NOS rather than nitrous.

only way a bottle would explode is if the heater temp control switch took a dump, but with which he shouldve had a blow down tube in the car since its a hatchback. looking at the accident i doubt the bottle blew.

just because we did it doesn't mean it's a good idea. i don't think there's a soul here who hasn't done it at least once.

....why did he need nitrous against a Civic in the first place??????? lol

Sorry to hear about the guy, it's not cool when people get hurt (even while doing dumb things), but you reap what you sow...

I drive fast everywhere, and I am clearly aware of the risks I take. When I'm blaring down the parkway, I know that a tire could potentially blow at any point in time, and I could flip.... it's a risk I take.

If I did crash, I wouldn't expect anyone to feel sorry for me or my dumb ass for crashing. I would expect them to feel sorry for the car though :P j/k

gods forbid you take yourself out, that is bad enough. it's when you take out someone else that the real tragedy occurs.

when you speed, go fast, race on the street, etc., you are not only endangering yourself, you are endangering others around you. the laws that exist are there to protect other people from those actions, not to protect you from yourself.

before anyone turns this into something that it's not, i am no saint and i do speed. i do it a lot less than i used to and i am slowing down everyday. things like this jog my memory of what can happen when you lose control, and if there is anything that i wouldn't be able to live with it's knowing that i killed someone because i was trying to save time by speeding.
