How I spent my saturday afternoon.
I spent a good 5 and a nalf hours in the pouring rain trying, in vain, to get my jeep out of about two feet of mud. My friend and I were drving around a constructions site around three o'clock in the afternood, and I decided to go around this really huge puddle. good intentions, but bad results. the front of my cherokee promptly sunk down to the point where the front bumper was resting on the top of the mud. I could barely see my passenger front tire. so I put my ****** shoes on and get out. I hook up a tow strap to my bumper support...bad idea. I ripped the passenger side bumper support off and the bumper is tweaked now . So next, I hook the tow strap around the rear axle. the jeep is not moving, my friend (curt86iroc) in his ZR-2 blazer was just sitting there spinning. well, curt goes back to his house and gets his dads 2003 silverado. we hook the truck up to the tow strap and the jeep starts moving . but it doesnt move far, maybe an inch and the silverado starts spinning. At this point we have been trying to get the jeep out for about 3 hours. I got so fed up with it I called rich's off road recovery service.
now this is where it get funny. Rich of riches towing asked how far off the road I was. I was about 250 feet from the pavement. then they ask how deep the mud is, so we tell them its about two feet deep there its stuck. he says thats no problem. The entire time my friend josh was on the phone with rich's (my hands were too muddy to operate a cell phone), he kept saying "dont bring a flatbed, get a real truck with a winch." What does he show up with? a god damn flatbed! so he takes a look at it and says, we're gonna have to get a different truck. so he calls up his buddy and tells him to get down there. I got to the ATM again, because if they have to bring out the other truck, the price jumps from 150 to 225! the other guy shows up and guess what he's driving? a mid 90's chevy 3500 dually . now I'm looking at this thing and all I see is a very heavy truck with skinny, average tires on it. he doesnt even have mildly aggresive tires on it. I think he might get stuck, but maybe not, they know what they're doing it. the guy asks me where the keys are, I tell them they're in the jeep. he says "awesome!" and runs back to his truck (its still pouring rain and its about 9:00 at night now.) he hops into his dually and takes off into the construction site. he's doing very well, but suddenly he starts going to the right of my jeep. What the hell is he doing? he stops, puts in in reverse and then tries to go forward again. not happening, he's stuck . so he jumps out and runs back to the flat bed and the two guys take off. hey come back ten or twelve minutes later with another flat bed and start baking the flatbed into the field! great, now they're gonna have a stuck flatbed too. I guess they went and got a flatbed with a longer winch because in about 10 minutes, my jeep was out and I was 225 dollars poorer. I asked them if their dually was stuck bad. he said, yeah, but thats their problem. So I drove off in my jeep and I noticed that the thermostat controls light up now. this is great!

I dont know! haha. It didnt look that bad when I first started driving towards it . but the pics were taken about an hour after I got stuck, so the water situation got a lot worse.
My friends and I were laughing so hard when the dually got stuck though, that was priceless!

I hate it when mommy and daddy buy kids new cars.
I was afraid I was gonna have to leave my jeep out there overnight, luckily that didnt happen.

Rule #1 when going off-road, don't go near construction sites! The ground is not packed down so you'll sink immediately. Rule #2, take a real off-road vehicle not a Jeep Cherokee! My buddy had some real aggressive 33" mud tires on his old CJ and we went into a construction area and started making some deep ruts. We were lucky and he was able to back all the way out in his own tracks.

Please refer back to rule #1. Only proceed to rule #2 if you break rule #1! Since most of these "4 wheel drive" vehicles are really front and rear one leggers, you won't go anywhere in mud with a stock vehicle. Put a locker in both diff's and get some 33-35" tires and then you can go play in the mud.
