my cat died today....
catalytic converter that is! im debating on whether to put a high flow cat on there or do the bullet muffler like kasey is gonna do. im prolly gonna run at the track w/o a cat at all, either an open manifold or just a straight pipe inplace. i may have the cat-back on by then idk yet, depening on how much time i have. looks like i now have something to do this weekend! and bill looks like ill be commin to you sooner then expected

Open manifold will sound like total ass, and probably run as it sounds. Either run a temporary straight pipe, or get a high-flow as a replacement.

high flow cats are a myth. they barely flwo any more exhaust than the standard cats on teh market.
i say go for the bullet muffler in it's place. it will be a good bit louder, and ricey sounding, but there is a huge performance gain to be had if you do some programming along with it.

I wondr what the difference is between a high flow cat and a bullet muffler.
I run catco 3 inch in and out high flow cat.
I bet the bullet muffler is lighter. Prob flows a bit more due to no honey comb's inside. Makes me wonder......
But then... I'd be headers, bullet muffler... and pipes?!?!?!?!?!
Can you say weed wacker TIMES ONE HUNDRED!!!!!

IF you ever did that James, I would never EVER follow your car through a tunnel like that one time in Trenton going to Firkin. I thought my ears were going to bleed.

yea im def gonna put a straight pipe/flexpipe/plain bullet on there this weekend when me and kasey rip my old one off. just idk what to use with the catback? bullet w/flanges or w/e or a highflow? my car doesnt have to get inspected for a few more years, i just got it done like last month....
i was just thinkin do i wanna do a full exhaust while im at it or wait till i get summore money? i already have tubes... how much better would headers be then tubular manifolds? i have about $1200 to *fix* my car dunno if i can justify a whole new exhaust as a repair

12secondv6, craig picked up almost 2 mph of trap speed from the 1cat and related programming. so it does help a lot. at idle/cruise craigs car is not that bad. he has stock tubular manifolds, stock y-pipe, bullet, magnaflow cat back. it does sound like complete ass when he floors it.
brando, the bullet muffler has slip fits on each end. you have to cut out the cat and a little stock tubing to make space for it. the cat in and the bullet are both 3inch ID tubing, so you have to put a short piece of 3inch OD tubing in between as a coupler.

i dunno...my car didnt sound too bad with an open manifold when my downpipe broke off, but for some reason my GP seems to sound better than any V6 fbody ive ever heard, maybe its the design of the manifolds?

I'm gonna call the clean air cops on anyone that's not running a cat! Maybe they'll give me $$ to narc on all the illegals! Just put a new cat on it. If you need a new 2-1/2" cat I have one for $40 sitting in my garage. A bullet muffler in place of a cat is a ricer move!

Nothing beats Matt, Randy (and Bill?) all going to WOT at the same time in the Rt 29 Tunnel.
Matt had the 454 with LTs and a 3" Flowmaster with no tubing after the muffler
Randy had his '93 LT1 with stock manifolds and Y-pipe, !cat, Loudmouth
That was WAY louder than any little 3.8

Well i think it was on rt. 29 too, it was Bill in his GTP, RJ with the Cut-Out open, James with the loud-mouth, and Chuck in his Z28, with a few other F-bodies close behind trying to catch up.

I think a high flow cat or no cat gains you about 3 or so horsepower.
no cat worth it for the sound and a possible $10,000 fine?...
to each his own I geuss
just my .02 cents

ditching the cat is worth a bunch of power, my 91RS picked up more than a full mph of trap speed with no other tuning, little g picked up about 2mph of trap speed with appropriate tuning. that is way more than 3hp.
also, the fine in new jersey for failure to maintain your vehicle is $175, and i have never in my life heard of anyone getting it for ditching their cat.
the $10k fine everyoen always talks about is a federal highway fine for illegally disposal or handling of hazardous materials, which if they see teh trash bag of cat guts you can get nailed with, otherwise it is just a failure to properly maintain.

if you want performance, ditch the cat. if you want to keep up appearences, get the most restrictive cat and quitest muffler you can find, cause all V6's sound like ass at all times, it is just a change in volume.

$175 sounds ALOT better then 10 grand, and you guys make me wanna do it, but the fear of a ****** sounding exhaust kinda scares me away from it. if im spending around $320 for a magnaflow i want my exhaust to sound good, not like ****.... anyway to get the best of both worlds? is there a way to make a "super hi-flow cat" (a one with half of the **** in it that a high flow does? just an idea...)
