Ozzfest 2006 Report

Disturbed made the show. They ****in' rocked!

Zakk Wyld is a guitar god, but then you already knew that.

System of a Down was awesome.

Hatebreed deserved more respect from the audience, however most were still in line for beer, the rest were already too drunk or stoned to remember where they were.

Ozzy... continues to deteriorate. He spent most of his time trying to jump around like a kangaroo, throw water on the audience, and get them to sing for him. Zakk had to remind him after each song, which one was next. Ozzy sounded ok, but really relied on the audience to sing for him. I saw him at Ozzfest 2003, and the Black Sabbat reunion tour in 98 - he just looks more pathetic each year. Ozzy's set was more like a Zakk Wyld solo with Ozzy interrupting. Zakk's dad went on stage to thank his son, stand there for pics with Zakk's guitar, and just praise Ozzy, blah, blah, blah. Touching, and humorous when his dad seemed to wilt under the weight of the guitar.

Lacuna Coil sounded good, but doing the cover of Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode seemed the wrong choice for their style.

I missed the BLS set on the second stage and kept kicking myself the whole night. They were one of the reasons why I went.

Except for all the political diatribes Draiman had between songs (yeah I know, just listen to their songs) I would recommend a Disturbed concert over Ozzfest - one hour just wasn't enough.

All in all a fun time. Great titty watching, and plenty of friendly fans. Only one fight the whole night - couple of fat guys started moshing on the lawn and got carried away. Some fat prostitute tried to pick me up - she had a face that got mule kicked a few times, plus she was heavier than me. And parking wasn't too bad - though it was five blocks away. Got out of traffic quick enough.

For 6 months, a promotion was posted on Zakks and BLS's web sites for a promotion run by a company called 357 Customs. They had a merchandising contract with Zakk, and since it was on his site, everyone thought it was legit!

The deal: Purchase a $100 gift cert, a ZW diecast chopper model, pay all shipping, and get a Epiphone ZW guitar included in the package. 3 months after this deal took place, they advertised a second deal: Purchase an MP4 player, pay all shipping, and get a guitar as well.

To make a LOOOONG story short, the webmaster of BLS.com was also the web master of 357Customs. Everyone was intertwined with everyone else. Excuse after excuse came and went, the guitars never showed up, the mp4 players never showed up, many people didnt get their diecasts and many are unable to use the gift certs. The webmaster, Chad Dyer was threatening people, banning people, not letting anyone say anything ior ask any questions about the whole situation.

Then Zakk claims that during the 6 months of promotion, he knew nothing of the deal. Yet, one of his bandmates had a whole bunch of his guitar students in on the deal. And, the one who supposedly started all this, the web master, was still allowed to stay webmaster!!! WTF! Meanwhile, 357 all but disappears, still no items recieved. Zakk initiates a law suit against 357 for HIS damages... doesent give a **** about his fans or anything else.

I was in on the deal and lost out on $200. So thats the basics... **** ZAKK, BLS, AND HIS WHOLE FAKE BIKER FOLLOWERS. SDMF= Stupid Dumb Mother ****ers. Zakk considers BLS fans "family"... yeah, well he just let thousands of his "family" get ****ed over. **** him, if I ever met him in person Id spit right it his fake biker scumbag mother****ing face.

Also check this link, has all the pertinent concrete info on everything that went down: http://357bullseye.blogspot.com/

They were alright. Opened the main stage before 4pm. The place was still about half empty because the second stage was just finishing. I dunno if I just didn't get their style / sound well because of the poor acoustics (lack of people made the sound jump all over the place), or if it was just the small crowd that made it seem blah, or whatever. I think I'll have to reserve judgement until I hear their recorded stuff.

EDIT: On a side note, I was supprised by the number of gray hairs there. Going to a Greatful Dead concert and seeing half the audience over 50 is one thing. Going to Ozzfest and seeing the number of folks over 50 that I did was unexpected. Had about an equal number of young familes too, with a few that had kids around 6yrs. Having young kids of my own, I thought Ozzfest was definately an adult theme. Good times though.

I was on the lawn in Camden dead center. BLS was great, so was Dragonforce,Lacuna and Hatebreed. Disturbed put on a great set and the singers comments @ the war were right on. A7x sucked and so did system of a down. Half the people were flipping them off and yelling for them to get off stage. The airbrushed boobs were plentiful though.
