rear shock replacement

i might throw the rear shocks on the red camaro tomarrow, the fronts were replaced by the previous owner and the back ones were in the trunk. how hard is it to do? it looks fairly simple in the haynes manual. any tips and about how long ya think itll take?

If it takes more then an hour (assuming the bolts come loose) you are being lazy. Just make sure you support the rear when you unbolt the shocks so the springs don't go rolling away. I would actually suggest leavng the car on it's wheels if you don't have a lift and just jack the body up to get the new shocks in place.

Yeah, I saw a front spring depart the car once because someone just popped the nut off the strut while it was on the lift, damn lucky he didn't get hurt or killed. Not something to do wrong on a 3rd Gen

What these guys said....rear shocks are simple.

one 18mm bolt on the bottom of the shock. and i believe a 15mm nut on top. To get to the top bolt, fold the back seat down and pull the carpeting back on each side right at the front of where the rear deck starts, right in front of the rear seatbelt uppers. There will be a triangle shaped foam "block" there, remove it and you will see the bolt. Sometimes that will also spin and i believe a 1/4" open end wrench fits the stud and will hold it while you loosen the 15mm(i think) nut free with another open end wrench.

k thanks guys i got it done in about an hour and a half, damn rusted bolts! was pretty simple tho
