				Popped for Speeding

Yep got tagged by a State Trooper on route 202 heading into PA, a mile before the toll. He got me for going 77 in a 55 which is a hefty fine. He was actually cool about it (probably because I was cool about it) and just gave me a warning for the speeding and a ticket for "Obstructed License Plate"
I didn't know that having those stupid plastic frames around the license plates - the ones all the dealers put on - was illegal. Apparently just having them there is considered obstructing the plate. So there's an FYI for those who didnt know (like me).

I don't recall ever hating cops for their jobs. It was a clear, dry road with no traffic around me. Had the music blaring and just got popped at a speed trap. Happens.

			East (or West?) Amwell?
Yeah, that spot is tough. Wide, open road with nobody on it, nice pavement, right after congestion.

 That sucks.

 | they're probably not illegal and it was a cop being nice by giving you that instead of speeding..

No, if they cover any part of the "New Jersey" or "Garden State" on the plate, they are illegal. I got stopped for having one on my car a few years ago in Flemington. Of course, there were 3 teenage guys in the car and the cop was on a drug search (why else would he pull all 3 of us out of the car separately and question us about drugs and alcohol).....but anyway, I did look it up once I got home from that trip.

Dunno which of the Amwell's it was. Had Disturbed rattling the windows while zooming along an open highway, so all those tiny towns kinda fly by in a blur.

any frame, cover, or anything else that reaches further into the border of the plate than the white lip around the edge is actually illegal. it is actually a federal law and the ticket can be handed to you in any state for it. it is jsut one of those things that you will only hear about if A: the cop is cool and doesn't wanna give you a points ticket or B: you managed to piss off the cop bad enough that he is gonna write you every ticket he can think of or look up in the hour he has you pulled over.

I've been cruising around here for over a year with 5% tint all around and I haven't had a single ticket, or even been stopped for it. Most hassle i've had was when a cop came up to my gf and me in an empty parking lot... *knock on wood*
