goods:
electric sun roof
power locks and windows
brand new clutch, not even 2k on it
oil changed every 2800mi
all new tires, all new trans fluid
front diff fluid changed

www.kbb.com says $3700 private party value in fair condition. for parts you would have to ask paul.

2500ish

edit*

i didnt see the *bad* part of the post. i sold mine for 2k in perfectly running condition. so id pay <1500 bucks for this thing, with knock. 420a are not espensive tho. You can always make a good profit by selling it to some high school 'tard.

lower knock could be crank walk, iirc from my friends when they all had DSMs. for a 98 non-turbo... with engine noises... i'd pass on it if your thinking of buying it, regardless of how cheap, its more headaches than its worth IMO. If you, or a friend, is trying to sell it... put lucas oil or heavier oil in it and put just a for sale sign on it, if someones interested, let them make an offer... if they offer 2k, say "...welll,...since i need it sold asap, ok fine"... if they say $800...take it as well, and make sure you say you dont know the history and sell AS IS(and write that on the bill of sale). IF somethign blows, then at least the new owner realizes they offered that price and its usually easier for them to accept. Yes, its not the nicest thign to do, but you're selling a used car, most used cars are sold due to some kind of problem, and most arent disclosed. Its business in most cases. However thats on reason i prefer to part cars, you never have to worry abotu a whole car comign back to you. Its easier to garuntee a part than a whole drivetrain.

now ill get into the parts aspect... a 98 is a 2nd gen, now that the 4th gens are out for over 2 years now...all previous cars/parts prices have dropped. less and less are on the road and they are no longer desireable as much as when F&F came out. I dont deal with imports much but ill give a basic run down of values. larger parts like bumpers doors hatch, are worth more yes, but you wont get what you may want for them, remember people dont wanna pay huge shipping costs, and stuff liek that arent needed locally that often, it may take a year or so to sell of all the body panels. Fenders front bumper and hood are easier to sell due to the fact those parts are usually the most commonly damaged...
With body parts you could get maybe 1000 total(lighting included) but once again it will take quite a while to sell it all off.
motor block maybe 100, head 100, trans w/clutch 200(since it only FWD),
internals would be maybe $50 for everything, especially if somethings knocking.
Interior may bring another 250 (seats included in that)
and figure wheels $200
throw in another 200 bucks for other odds and ends like suspension parts, brakes etc, and you're looking at a grand total of around $2100 in parts. You CAN make more if you sell EVERY part individually, but that does involve a lot of time and patience. It may take over a year to sell all the parts. Thats where selling whole makes more sense, its all gone at once and you dont have to store parts, and keep in mind stuff WILL get damaged while in storage and go down in value.

Ive parted many cars so ive dealt with the pros and cons. If the 2nd gen dsm market was the same as a 3rd gen f body market id say part it, but its not. So in the end, the choice is up to you really, either way you can get the same rough amount, in the ballpark of 1800.

seriously your gona waist your time parting it out cus there really isnt a market for a 2cnd gen eclipse but you have a better shot of doing that then selling it! unless you can quiet the knock down with lucas and sell as is its only worth "500" bucks either way you go!

its common knowledge among sellers that if the buyer negotiates the price then the car is automatically dropped to as-is...
