Advice
Alright here's the story. My trans is taking a dump, and I have someone at my job that can rebuild it, but it'd be cheaper if I take it out of the car myself. I'm wondering is it worth rebuilding the 4l60E, or should I go for something else? Also meanwhile, if I do go for the rebuild, can a auto trans out of a 3.4 fit/work on my formula. I know i'm gonna be losing considerable gas mileage. But that's my only car and I need to get around somehow. I'm willing to consider any and all possibilities. Thanks.

its obviously cheaper if its alreayd out, BUT figure in your time and do you have the experience to pull it and reinstall it yourself? Also will they also fulyl warranty it since they are not reinstalling it? just think about those things.
As for the 3.4 trans, it will not work, you need a V8 version(bellhousing bolts are different)
IMO it would actually pay to have them do it all, and just be without a car for 3 days at most. It shouldn't take longer than that really, maybe less even. perhaps drop it off late at night say on a sunday, and see if they can have it ready wed morning.. its worth a shot.

youd need...
93-97 lt1 T56 6 speed transmission
lt1 t56 bellhousing
lt1 f body clutch(disc throw-out bearing and pressure plate)
lt1 flywheel
lt1 clutch fork
lt1 clutch/brake pedals/bracket
hydraulic slave cylinder(w/spacer)
hydraulic clutch line
hydraulic clutch master
shifter, shifter boot, and shifter plate for console
cutting hole in trans tunnel
rewiring to allow reverse lights to work
possibly tuning to let pcm know its not auto anymore(but not a big deal)

call up CPT(cahall performance transmissions) and see what it will cost to have them send you their base rebuild with a core charge...then do the trans swap in one day and send the stocker back to them for the core refund

didn't 93's have a different one than the 94-97?

only difference in a 93 t56 is the gear ratios...it got a much steeper 1st gear...externally its all the same

IIRC there were actually 2 different T56s in '93.
