I hate nickel and dimers.....

OK so about a month ago I sold my friend Greg's old LS1 block to a guy for $400.00, a pretty good deal if you ask me as the block was in ready to go condition, it barely looked broken in. He arranged shipping and the day after I had a bill of lading (the day I got it we had an ice storm) I have the block sent out at around 8-9 AM. Not too bad right? Well he gets it and immediately comes after me because it is missing the 10 small main bolts in the sides. At this point I am being a nice guy so i say we will work something out but I was out of town. I get back to find he is pissed off and wants to file a grievance. WTF right? Now I am a little torqued up. He got a block he would have had to pay $1300-$1700 for new and have it shipped and I didn't even charge him a crating fee. He did pay for the tie down straps and engine bag, which was nice. So anyway he shoots me a part # for the mains and adds some more parts that I know don't come on a new block because I took them off to put in mine and wants money for that, so I say no. I was willing to pay for just the main bolts so he sends me a bill for $33.85. I look up the part number on GMPD and the LIST is $2.57 for 5 bolts, or $1.53 online for 5.So really worst case he paid, or should have paid, about $5.00 for the bolts. So I told him as soon as I can I will paypal him $7.00, to cover tax etc, and them he can pay me $25.00 for crating the engine, 6 gallons of gas at $2.50 a gallon for gas to deliver the crate to the depot, $1.00 for toll bridge and $250.00 for the day off work I had to take to deliver the crate. Somehow I think I will be getting negative feedback on this one. My last E-mail is going to say "next time spend $1300.00 on the block, plus another $375.00 to ship it or be happy you got a good block for $400.00 and had to put $10.00 worth of parts in it". God I hate most people.

He sent me another nasty E-mail so i replied with this...gives me a warm fuzzy feeling

I was just thinking about and with all the money I saved you on this transaction and the amount of money I paid out of pocket to get you the stupid block I am not going to paypal you $33 for $10.00 worth of parts. I waived money for the crate which I normally ask $25.00, took a day off of work which is another $250.00 out of my pocket at the end of the year, drove the damn thing in still bad weather roughly 40 miles each way in a truck that gets 12 mile per gallon which is (roughly another $10.00) so you wouldn't have to pay the pick-up fee for the truck (probably $50-$75), plus the $2.50 bridge toll and you are going to bust my nuts for $10.00 worth of parts? If you paid $33 for those bolts you need to talk to your supplier, the link I sent comes right from GM. As afr as I am concerned this transaction is over, go ahead and leave me negative feedback, file a grievance or do whatever you want, you saved what could have been over a $1000 with this block so you should be grateful, not complaining over a couple of bolts. If you want a mint block next time go to pace or GM, pay $1300-$1700, plus a few hundred to ship and then you will still need to buy ALL of the plugs, plus the transmission studs for the back but you will have the main bolts. I am tired of dealing with nickle and dimers like you and I am confident that your negative feedback won't trump the few hundred positives I have already. I was originally willing to work with you but your lack of patience (If I can't access paypal I can't access paypal, getting worked up over it won't make it go any faster) and general bad attitude with this whole transaction will be worth the negative feedback just to know I didn't knuckle under to someone who got a deal but feels the need to be overly greedy. You can't eat caviar on a pickled herring budget. So I am sorry we couldn't work this out but there will be no paypal transfer.

Were you selling it as a "bare block or a "bare block assembly" The part number on an engine block is just that the bare block. From the very beginning of the correspondance associated with the transaction was it ever said that the sale was exclusivly for that of the block or was it said he wanted the block assembly, if it was for the block assembly there would be additional parts included in the sale. Sounds like a potential case of lack of communication, I have a girlfriend so I know it all too well. GM allowes you to buy a motor in many different ways, just teh part (block) the base assembly (bare block assembly) or short block or long block etc etc. If the origional agreement was for just the block and the buyer wanted additional parts to make up a bare block assembly and never specified that you can go tell him he should be more precice in convaying what he wants when he orderes something. If he continues to have a problem i always found it to be in my best interest by threatining them with bodely harm but not on e-mail or any other traceable means. If i were to sell a block i would be up front with what parts (if any) are included or not included.

It was listed as just a block, with no other inferences otherwise. he never sent an E-mail to ask any questions so I assumed he just wanted the block.

Sounds like a jerk. If he thought something was missing, he could just ask for it. If you for got it, ask it to be shipped. If you don't have it, take the relatively inexpensive purchase and be happy with it. The way you shipped the block shows you were willing to bend over backwards to make sure the buyer got a quality item - not a half-assed jumble of parts dumped into a box and tapped shut.

well f'um then. If you said "block" and he got a "block" where is the problem?

If he said "block AND bolts" and you gave him just a "block" id send him the bolts.

But it sounds like he never asked for bolts so ignore him.

Batman,

That does suck, sounds like he feels you "owe him something" when in fact it is pretty much the opposite. Take the neg feedback with pride.

I cleaned the shop out this past fall and sold the old stock on e-bay. I had some new in the box hurst three speed shifters which I listed and they sold for like $20 each. One buyer gets his and calls me saying its missing the boot. I tell him to call hurst and assured him that they would take care of it if there were missing parts. He called them and they told him that that shifter didnt come with one. He calls me back and wants me to send him $10 for the boot because there was one in the stock Hurst picture that I used for the auction. I told him that he bought a new shifter and I had no reason to take it out and play with it. I said you just got a $125 shifter for $20... your welcome.
He later emailed me and said that he was doing me a favor by just refraining to leave feedback. I fealt sooooo thankful... NOT! What a jerkoff!

Well he just made a claim for $450, the full price of the block and shipping. So I replied via paypal

Obviously you are not happy with my product, so please return it in the same condition, at your expense, and I will issue a 100% refund.

Of course I know he already installed it in a car so this should get really good now
