Gas Strike?
Anyone else hear the "don't pump gas on May 15th" gas buyer's strike? Is there any legitimacy to this? Or is it just an internet email chain thing?
Thoughts?

I saw this chain on myspace. Supposly back in 1998 there was a gas strike. By the next day gas prices dropped 30 cents.

the problem with this "dont pump gas on may 15" is that people will go to the pumps on the 14th or the 16th just so they dont have to go on the 15th
for somthing like this to actualy work we would have to not go to a gas station for 4-7 days. now if every one in the country didnt pump gas for 4-7 days somthing might actualy happen but until somthing like that happens ill be walking and pedaling around town

Who cares how many follow and don't buy gas? It's not gonna change how much gas people use, and obviously how much they are gonna put in their car. If (by some chance) a significant number of people decided to not purchase fuel on the 15th, I'm willing to bet that the numbers from the 14th and the 16th will be slightly better than average. Won't hurt the gas company's bottom line at all.
The only thing that it may do is hurt an individual gas station if they are relying on money coming in that day to pay bills.

Yeah that's true, unless someone decides to go big and really turn it into a week or more of not pumping gas and more use of alterative transportation, this isn't going to put a dent in anything. Not to mention i don't think that a whole lot of people have heard not to pump gas on the 15th to begin with, so I don't think the reaction is going to be great enough to be noticeable anyway.

the price of gas is not determined by this. i wish it would work too, but gas prices MUST go up, before they can go down.
you guys think it would work if we bought only gas stations that didn't supply from the middle east?

Good luck with that.
If you can find a gas station that actually gets 0% of it's crude from the middle east, and can prove it, I'll actually bake you cookies.

This wont ever work and the story isn't even true about the 30 cent fall.
Here is the MSNBC article they just wrote on it a few days ago explaining everything about it!

it doesn't matter anyway...oil companies look at their books quarterly and adjust/report accordingly, not daily. so, as was stated above, everyone will buy their gas on the surrounding days and negate any boycott activity. it would take everyone to stop using and buying gas for a week before a noticeable impact would be made.

...You don't want Justin's cookies...
...........Maybe his wife's cookies, but not the ones Justin makes. ....
I think it would work, hypothetically, but of course, as Justin said, the trouble is finding one. That, and oil companies that don't import oil from the middle east would be just as expensive, if not more, because they don't produce as much.
We have an oil drilling company in south jersey, and a few other places around the united states, but none of them produce enough oil to be distributed in the quantities that we use around the states. Our other option is to drill in Alaska, but, it's full of endangered species and beautiful land, I highly doubt the US is willing to tear it up now, nor in the future.

gas prices will never go down because they don't have to. why would any company volunteer to reduce profits? if anything they are taking measures to increase their profits and the profits of the auto manufacturers by mixing in lower cost additives(10-15% ethanol) to occupy volume in the tank instead of actual gas.
these additives reduce fuel economy, decrease engine life, but save 1/100th of a tree every 50 fill ups or so. lol
it also doesn't matter what gas station you get your gas from sinc ethere are only 4 actual refinary companies in the US that all the major fuel corporations from all over the world contract through.
just keep an eye out for those green and pink trucks that say valero on the side, notice they stop at BP, Mobil, Exxon, and every other station they go past.

yup...if I'm correct, ExxonMobil owns the Valero refinery in Edison...at least that's how we billed the refinery when they were my customer.

there is only one gas company that has full vertical integration of the process in the US, sunoco. they own several wells, ships, tanker trucks, refineries, and stations on their own. they also process crude into fuels for several other companies.
Luk is looking to save themselves a ton of money and increase theirbottom line by seeking permission to import already refined gas and diesel. the US government hasbeen blocking the idea for several years now.

Yea luk is from the russia. From what I heard, doing that stuff does not affect them at all, prices follow in theform of 6 months, what do i mean by that, it takes 6 months from oil to be pumped from teh ground, to be put in your tank, it doesnt affect the companies at all, the numbers are projected way ahead of time. so saving one day isnt going to do anything, it would have to take several weeks, to several months, and the way soccer moms, and a****** top business men are, tring to buy the biggest SUV they can for no other purpose then to look important or just cause they feel safer, well your also the ones atteh pump bitching about how you can believe how high prices are, you are your own problem a*******!!! I once read an article in my newspaper about women and SUV's and there wasa woman from brig who bought a H2, not cause she hada purpose for it, not so she can ride on the beacj with it, her reason, because seh thought it looked cute. Man I wish they had license to legally kill stupid people, shed be first on my list.
